AOL contract up for renewal next month.

Options
They called me tonight and offered me 2 months free line rental if I stay with them for another 18 months, also for £3 extra a month I can have 100 'free' calls to mobiles per month.
I pay £21.49 per month at present

I'm going to compare on Uswitch and want a landline/free calls/broadband deal.

However cost isn't the only factor, I'd like to hear others experience of service too, so who is good/bad?

Thanks if you can help.

    Xmas Saver!
I'm with aol. don't have my line rental with them, I pay £7.20 per month, get unlimited broadband and also all my calls (local, national and freephone) calls are free.
If you have sky they seem to do good deals, a friend of mine has just gone with BT and got some good deals.
hope u get sorted soon. xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • Thank you, are you paying £7.20 for your broadband and then £13.90 for your line rental? I presume so as you have calls included, so that would make it practically the same as me?

It seems taking into account what companies are offering free, and then adding in the rest of the term of the contract, that Plusnet come in cheapest overall at £191.76. Which is a huge saving compared to AOL (£367.55) and Sky (£340) however I'm really concerned about customer service and speed!

    It's a minefield isn't it?

Are you kidding? If you can put up with TT's 'customer service', then you are going to be delighted with either Sky or Plusnet.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I've been with AOL (I realise they are part of Talk Talk now) since 2002 and apart from a few teething problems when setting up wireless network it's not been too bad at all, I'm thinking 'better the devil you know'?

Really depends if you are content to go on paying nearly twice as much as Plusnet. And did you factor some cashback into switching? Currently Quidco are paying £50+ for a Plusnet phone and broadband sign up.

I was with AOL since I first got the internet at home, way back when. I'm not very tech savvy so please bear with me whilst I explain.

I did have a wired connection and was nervous about changing provider, it's all gone ultra smoothly though. I'm now with Plusnet for my calls and broadband, now on wireless, and it's super. I don't know why I umm'd and aargh'd for so long.

Oh and I still have access to my AOL email address.

Plusnet are fabulous and UK call centres too.

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time
  • Thank you, I think I will ring AOL and see if they can do better with their offer - if not then I feel a little more confident about taking the plunge with Plusnet.
