Hi, in the process of selling our house and recently realised that we were never sent the fensa certificates for patio doors and windows. We couldn't get hold of the builder so phoned Fensa and they said they had no records of any work being done at our address! They told us to get back to builder which we have and he's looking into it. Should I be worried about this? Thanks:)

            were they built before 2007?
You can buy a FENSA certificate for a hundred quid or so from any shady merchantSealed pot challange no: 3390 -
We had them fitted year before last. Hoping the builder will sort it for us but still waiting for him to get back to us!0

If you can't get a fensa cert, you can get a building control inspection instead. Will cost a few quid though.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Don't worry. If you can't sort out the Fensa certificate then you either get the building control people to certify that the windows are OK (main problem with that is that they might not give you an appointment for a couple of weeks) or pay a couple of hundred quid for an indemnity policy. Or you explain to your buyer why you don't have a certificate (in our case, the firm was Fensa-registered but went insolvent the same week they fitted our windows and therefore lost their Fensa registration, even though the same windows were being fitted by the same people!) and, if they're reasonable, they'll decide it doesn't matter!0

Thanks for the advice. I know he's still in business and all the quotes on paperwork had the fensa trademark and registration number on them so it just all seems a bit strange. Dont really want to have to pay out anymore money! hopefully we'll here something soon:)0

Go on the FENSA website yourself and just put your address in.
If he was genuinely FENSA registered at the time, your address will be there. Nice and easy.
If your address isn't there, you were scammed, and you need to report him to FENSA. (Falsely claiming registration is incredibly common, sadly...) Then either go the buildings control route or suggest an indemnity policy to the buyers.0 -
Thanks for that. Ive just looked on the website and its saying there is no records for our address. Looked at our previous address and it showed up all the work we did to that house. Will make a phonecall to the builder again tomorow!!!!0

We were very nearly scammed by an electrician who falsely claimed to be registered with ECA/ELECSA. It's outrageously common. I always check directly with the registration body now. Good luck with the builder though...
For what it's worth, our house had non-FENSA windows installed by the previous owner, and we just shrugged and bought the house anyway. Hopefully your buyers will be equally blase.0 -
I don't think it's a big deal and your buyers may not, either. The trouble is that solicitors are obsessed with the paperwork and will want it covered.Je suis sabot...0

interesting thread as we are selling our house currently - our front door does not require fensa (<50% glazed), but I hadn't realised the glazed door light above the front door requires it (i believe) ...
do i really need to bother with this?
