Friend has got a job but 3rd-party company want his last 3 year bank statements ?

As an alternative, perhaps a letter from his accountant (sounds the sort of chap who would have one!) or HMRC just confirming everything is in order and to speak to them for any specific questions?

It could be being passed off as checking that he wasn't in a terrorist training camp somewhere or in prison, I guess if he has regular money going out to the local Asda or what have you they can show that he was in the country living a normal life. That's the only thing I can really think of, agree it is pretty stupid but there are plenty of examples of over cautious stupidity (eg the bank wanting utility bills in my 16 year old brother's name before they would let him open up a bank account...)

But what if the OP is someone like me who only ever has BGC, DD and SO entries on their bank statements? All other spending is done via CCs.
