As he does not need the job

I would challenge the request and ask what it is they want to know, as well as keep things private to see how they deal with things, it will give an idea what sort of employer they are.

There are jobs out there that won't be so intrusive.

If they're really just looking for proof of what he's lived on for the last three years, could he not just offer to show proof of his VR? Personally I wouldn't give three years of bank statements to anyone (I believe this is excessive even in the finance world - could be wrong).

Totally ludicrous request. He definitely needs to ask what they are trying to actually find out. I don't even have 3 years of bank statements - everything is online and is my business, not any employer or potential employer.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Way over the top. Offer to provide professional referees to vouch for activities/occupation over the last three years and decline the request for bank statements.

His bank statements are of no concern to any employer, his name is on the letters the bank send, they are private and confidential.

He may think a low pay "easy" job is easy, but the lower the pay, the more some jumped up authoritarian thinks they can treat you like a dog.

Totally outrageous unless in the financial sector - and then still somewhat outrageous! I would be inclined to blow them out.

I could understand Payslips or P60s at a push but bank statements? Umm...No!

What sort of job He certainly woudn't be able to refer the 3rd party company to HMRC as they would be in breach of the DPA if they revealed his tax details to anyone else.

Surely not if he gave his written consent to HMRC to provide the necessary info to the 3rd-party company ?

Another approach is to continue with the application, delaying this disclosure, taking time, get them to really want you and have to give up the request or get someone else.

Certainly find out what they are looking for.

    Are they American?
