Well, it's been expensive for us this last month. VAT bill and entertaining the kids over summer. So my %s are slow and steady. Keep thinking about listing on ebay...but that's as far as I've got. :(
We've got loads of stuff to get rid of. I've got a couple of days off later in the week so I'll attempt to sort some stuff out.
Well done to everyone so far.
Sorry to read of your split Claire (((hugs))) xx

This thread is such a great idea. I'm not going to 'officially' join as I've got a lot going on at the moment and will probably forget to update. But I have got an envelope at the ready to stash my first 1%, and will keep at it. I logged on to my Barclaycard account yesterday, and was pretty shocked at the amount of interest I have been paying.

I don't get paper bills as I opted out. Note - don't opt out, it only serves to make you oblivious to it!!!

    No 45 back again.
I've sold 2 pieces of jewellery totalling £22.50 and counted £24.50 in my 5p and under change jar.
    Total for the week £48.00
I've got 4 watchers on my e-bay stuff (which might mean nothing, or up to £12).

Instead of hitting the supermarket on the same day every week we put it off for 4 days and ate up whatever was in the fridge/freezer/cupboards.
Everything was tasty, balanced, and healthy. It seems we got into the habit of going because it was shopping night, and not really needing to, despite taking a list.
We only bought fresh fruit and veg which had run out, and the few basics we were very low on. There is enough to last another week - hopefully.
From now on we are going to try and stretch food shopping by at least 3 days, so if we shop on Monday one week, we go Thursday the week after, Saturday on the 3rd week, and by week 4 we might not need to go at all (free week and a great chunk of the next %age).
Bread, milk and eggs can be picked up from the corner shop which removes the temptations at the supermarket.
They might cost a few pence more, but no petrol usage, parking costs, and no spur of the moment 'treats'.

Had a brainwave this morning at 5am! As I'm about to be a mature student, why not apply for a 0% overdraft and pay off my credit card with it to avoid any fees?! Not only have I made a monthly saving until the cc balance is clear, but Santander were also offering £50 as long as at least £500 is deposited every term.

Feeling very smug with myself having opened a new account today. I just hope my eBay sales start to get some bids soon!
  • quick random question ..if something sells for 99p on ebay, how much of it do you actually get to keep after fees?

Morning all. Feeling positive today, not sure why but I like it :)

I'm on sort and sift mode today. I'm making my way through my craft items and seeing what I've got to make things with and bits I don't need that I can sell. Also got a big charity bag of things that are past selling. Would rather make the space with these bits.

Took about 15 pics of things to put on eBay 99p. Going to do some more when youngest sleeps. And I'm going to count my change out I think x

  • So im being daft again, my debt is errr £4600? 1% of that is £46, so everytime i make £46 i can state that as my 1% and when i have 100% i will be debt free??

That's exactly right if your debts are interest free. If you pay interest you will need to...

1)Pay your minimums each month and count your 1%'s separately (this pays off your interest and keeps your balance steady)

2)Not add any further spending to your debt total

Please also regularly check your balances. They often differ to the amount of 1%s you have paid off.

Your min payments are usually a few £'s higher than the interest. These eventually add up to an extra percent.

    E.g. My original balance was £8k & my 1% is £80
My 1%'s currently add up to £960 (12%)
However when I check my balances I only owe £6960.
Which means I've got 87% remaining and I've actually paid 13% off not 12% :)

Ive just earned 4.4% of debt 2. So now a total of 32.9% going to count my change now :)

ETA: £3 in change. Thats 0.4% Going to spend it normally but transfer £3 from my bank to halifax.

Oooh forgot my £4.38 cheque that will clear on monday. Another 0.6%

Total so far for debt 2 = 33.9% (although some of it hasnt been added to the savers with this fund in)

Still got lots to list on Ebay yet, 99p items but got about 20-30 to list hopefully today.

I always use an eBay fee calculator online to work this out - I know if I try it myself I'll have no hope of getting it right! A quick google brings up this one however if it's not to your taste there are others to choose from too.
    Thank you competition posters!
