Thanks Sarah - they are only 6 & 3 (we're saving to go to Disney when they are 5 & 8 or 6 & 9) and the little one doesn't really understand but follows his brother. The older has a reasonable grasp of value for his age. Their grandparents are pretty generous with money and so if there is nothing they need/want they can chip into the disney fund. Then if they 'buy' a whole square on my chart then I put their names on it and we can all see that they contributed that themselves
They also already know that the xmas before we go they are pretty much only getting money towards Disney from their relatives & not a huge amount of gifts! They seem ok with that so far.... :cool:1% at a time no. 40. £8000 (For dream family holiday) 94/100

Hi Everyone
Thank goodness for the subscribe button or I would never have found the thread again!! The thread has been quiet of late, I'm guessing lots of people may have lost us. I'm sorry I've been MIA the last week, I've been stressed and irritable and just mentally exhausted! We finally got an offer from the insurance company at 6pm this evening. I know most people say not to accept the first offer but we genuinely believe the offer is more than reasonable, so tomorrow we are off to look for a new car. So far it's cost close to £500 for the hire car so the sooner we have our own car the better. Our insurer has said it's likely to take around 2 weeks for payment to come through but my parents in law have offered to loan us the money until then, so hoping tomorrow we'll find a car and the stress will stop. On a better note, going to the bank to sort out a new current account tomorrow so we can start divvying up our income into 'pots' so we can work harder at paying our debts off. Anyways enough about me, how is everyone this very cold and snowy eve?

Urgh the gas and elec bills have gone up. £10 a month more for Gas and wait for it, £20 a month more for elec  Im with BG so im looking around for a cheaper alternative and looking at ways of reining our usage in. Thing is we hardly have TV or fire on, thermostat is set at 19c and we only have 5 radiators!! All our appliances are A or A+ rating except dryer (thats B or C). Grr. We do use washer, dryer and dishwasher daily though but with 3 young kids you have to! Ok rant over
Going to check Ebay right now, so far, pending sales of £30.10 less Ebay fees. :T thats just over 3% to add to my 18% earned this month!!Really hope i get up to the magic 25% from sales. Thats £225 plus the £100 we already pay each payday. £335  Over 1/3 of my debt to my mum, we'd be on target to pay her off still by 31/03 :T Just got to keep this selling lark up *looks for more things to sell*
Off to write my extra expenses per month down so i can budget (birthdays, hair appts, mothers day, tax/mot due dates etc) as will have to try harder those months!!

No new percentages to report but 56 listings to finish at the weekend and lots of watchers so hoping for a percent or two from that. Also our friend who's been "lodging" since September is moving out today so will get 2%s worth of rent from her (decided to pro-rata the month) and a takeaway for helping with the move (which should stop us wanting to buy a takeaway for a while!)
Also, I've posted on DFW board asking for mods to move us back- this thread has been life changing for me and wouldn't want others to miss out by it being buried in the diaries- so post on there if you agree and hopefully we'll get moved back :-( I only made the request as knew Little Miss Uni Debt didn't ask to be moved here.
Nikki - re bank accounts, have you looked at those that give cash incentives? FirstDirect give £125 at the mo and customer service is brilliant. My cash came through in about 2 months (was £100 then!). We also have a Halifax rewards account which currently has joining incentive of £100 and pays you £5 a month. We have one of these as our joint bills account and I now transfer my fiver every month into my percents pot (a natwest account)- no joining incentive for us. Have a look at T&Cs of these- the overdrafts differ massively!! (I don't use either!) For piggybanks I use natwest- have lots of savings accounts named things like "haircuts", "presents" etc. I have standing orders going from FD to natwest pots and bills account so it's all pretty automatic- although I do love shuffling around! At the end of the month I move what's left in the piggybank savings accounts into my percent pot account and record it as a budget underspend on my 100 ways spreadsheet (I like to record everything I've made on % challenge there! I do do "carry overs" on the holiday and car expenses piggy bank so that a good sum accumulates :-)
Right better get on with helping friend move :-)Total money owed: [STRIKE]31/07/11- £17,877[/STRIKE], LBM - 14/10/12 :j, 01/06/13 - £0 DEBT FREE!!!!
New challenge- save an extra £5000 from non-salary -£1600 (32%)0 -
I have a big success to report:j
My PPI claim to Natwest was agreed and I have now received my refund. This is enough to clear my credit card debt so I need to declare new totals.
#196 Total £4500 paid off 100%
I now need to clear a secured loan of £6128.
So new total #196 £6128 1% = £62 (rounded up)
Please can you change my figures LittleMissUni-Debt.
Savings goal £30,000 1% = £300.

Hi Everyone
Happytails - well done on the eBay sales that is a fantastic result!!!!!
Melodramaticme - Congratulations on your 100% you must be extremely happy. I look forward to that day! One down, next!!
FallenArcher - Thank you for your suggestions, unfortunately we weren't in a position to take up either. We have a Halifax card like yourself and use it to get the £5 incentive. With First Direct, we didn't want to apply as we banked with them quite a few years ago and they closed our accounts down as we were £30 overdrawn and they continued sending mail (despite being advised of our new address) to our old address saying we needed to pay the money back. The silly thing was that we had over £400 sitting in our other account. Anyways I didn't want to risk applying with them to be declined for that reason and then jeopardise getting another account elsewhere! But thank you for the suggestions, if we could have we would have used them!
I can't believe how cold it has been today! We have found a new car and subject to test drive tomorrow we will be able to collect on Tuesday. I will be so thankful when this hire car is gone! Today a stone from the road flew up and hit the windscreen and chipped it, so we now have to pay an extra £60 to have the chip repaired! I'm not doing too well with cars this month!! So we've decided to write this month of as a debt repayment month but we have prepared ourselves ready for next!!
Role on February! Now to try and find someway to de-stress (recommendations welcome)

Hi everyone, sorry i havent been around much. 203 is turning out to be a very busy year!!
My new job is going really well - just waiting for payday!! I am working 47 hours a week on all 7 days though so fairly tired. As i have kept my weekend shifts at the gym i can still get free usage, which i am using a lot more now i am not working there as much. my new job is working for the district council as a customer services officer and the building is on the same site as the leisure centre so i can go straight after work. this does now mean i am out of the house from 8.30 - 7 ish and i am doing the air cadets 2 nights a week as well.
Does anyone have any good ideas for fundraising that isnt - coffee morning, market stall, bag pack or car wash?
So yeah, busy.
On a money saving note i did receive a cheque from global test market for just over £30 and expenses refund for £14 so only need £6 to get my first 1%.
I think most of my 1% are going to come from wages now. Think i have also sorted out what i am doing re finances. i think i will hit the threshold for halifaxs £5 a month offer and then my dad says if i transfer what i would save into his offset mortgage account he will give me interest of 2.6% which is as good as anywhere and miles more flexible!!!
Hope everyone is enjoying the start to the new year. x1% at a time challenge member #127
