Hi all, I'm just wondering when you do a carboot what sort of money do you take with you for a float ? I've got about £20 in 10's 5's 20's 2's 1's but I don't have any £1 or notes yet... what would you suggest? Thank you x

ive sold at a carboot with no float at all before, money soon starts coming in from sales.

I'd leave the 1p & 2ps in your savings jar, and wouldnt worry too much about change, most carboot buyers have change, even if they try paying with a large note.

Confession time : as a regular at carboots i often try and break a note first, even when i have the change to pay :o just tell them you can't change the note and i bet you they soon find some lost change at the bottom of their bag!!

Just remember to take old carrier bags :)

    Hiya all.
We're having a set back month. Moving house (and have a month cross- over between houses which means an easy move, but some double bills!)
My husband had also not being paying his class 2 National Insurance for a number of years, but as we are getting everything sorted we contacted them to sort out - and a new debt has arrived on our doorstep of £980!, plus a new monthly outgoing to cover his current National Insurance.

Oh well, we knew it would happen - and despite it all I am still feeling massively positive about our debts!!! This Thread works...FACT! Previously I would have been really stressed out, but I think this thread has helped me to break it all down in my head to manageable chunks - and also to realise that impatience is an enemy - it's going to take time, and you shouldn't try and overpay your debts because it makes you feel better, as you then never leave enough in the pot to meet your basic expenses.
We had paid 10% off, but with moving expenses and the Nat Ins, that's back down to a fat zero%!! The good news is that it hasn't got any bigger overall.
We had paid back 10% in 2 months, but now with the new house I know we will find it hard to do as much. I think our minimum monthly contributions will be in the region of 3%. So I'm signing up to be a Jamie at Home rep to earn some extra cash - they have a special offer on this month that if you sign up as a rep your kit only costs £25 for £400 of stuff - you have to do a minimum of 4 parties within a certain time frame and then the kit is yours. I'm just signing up now so will find out more detail and post if anyone is interested in following it up too.

Anyway, from a strangely optimistic me, hope everyone else is equally positive. Hanliam:)

  • Hi all,

Well it's a week away from Payday and I think it could be a decent month again. I think we're on track for at least another 5%. We've made a total of £52 on eBay for a bed and a chest of drawers we no longer wanted (one of which we were given 6 years ago for free!!) I'm still yet to list the remainder of the items I'd said previously but will try and do so this weekend whilst it's free. One thing I noticed last month was that I was so eager to pay my %'s across that I paid them the day I got paid and then worried for the next week and half that we had enough money in our account until Ian got paid, so this time I'm going to wait until the 10th to ensure we've got sufficient funds in our accounts to get by. It's our little monsters birthday on Saturday next week so will be spending a little more at the end of the month but we decided instead of a birthday party we would allot £50 for the whole day for him to do what he wants for his birthday. So far he wants to go to the £1 cinema, laser quest, to a museum in Liverpool he's so proud that he's getting to do everything he wants and it's way under budget! A future MSE'r me thinks!

Anyways have a lovely weekend all

    Evening all!

Well with some careful thinking we are going to be clearing our overdraft off fully before focusing on the CC. Just because the o/d is a worse debt to have as we've had it years and always in it. Whereas the credit card will be getting paid/overpaid each month on time which will slowly improve our credit ratings :j

Ive worked out we should be rid of our £2700 overdraft by March 2013 :j Ive got the first £700 to be paid off by 2nd Nov (the increase their charges then) Which is my 'Debt 2' so aiming to have the full 100% paid by that date :) Then the balance will be £2000 so my new % will be £20 from November. Im actually quite excited about clearing this overdraft as we have had it for years. My birthday is in March so if it can be gone and the account closed before then then i will be super happy!

Going to list on Ebay like a mad woman over weekend. Got a single bed, coffee table, big kids easel and a car seat base amongst loads of other stuff to list :) Should bring in a few ££'s :T Next weekend i have a £25 hair appt so ideally i want Ebay sales to cover that first, then any leftover will go to the post office as i owe them £65 for all the stuff ive been posting

Got 2 birthdays next month (FIL and SIL) so need to get something good for each but for a total of less than £30 ;) We are also getting our kitchen tiled and the hallway plastered so it is going to be a very tight month! Eek!

Doing a tesco shop tonight and will be buying a lot of tinned stuff in and stuff that will last the month (pasta etc) so if we really do get strapped for cash ill be able to feed us all!

oooh just found a BNWT DKNY shirt of the husbands he said i could sell :) And a BNWT next pinstripe 2pc suit. Wonder what i should list those for? And do i list the suit as a set or seperately? The pieces were bought seperately (34R trousers and 40R blazer). Decisions decisions! So glad he doesnt take the tags off things as soon as he gets them home LOL

Happytails, why not list them seperately but put a note on each description that you have a matching piece for sale also.
