Sky TV Cancel

Hello All

I am moving house soon, the house I am moving to needs a lot of work so I am moving back in with my parents for approx 6 months (They have sky already)

My sky contract is not due to finish until setember 2012. I am on the 19.50 package.

Is there any way I can cancel this? Or lower the package to something else ?

Thanks in advance

You're on the lowest package anyway. You could ask but I doubt very much that Sky will agree to suspend your subscription. They'll probably just insist on you paying each month.

Find out exactly when your 12 months is up so you can phone again to give the required 31 days notice.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

This. Unless your dead, going into care or are leaving to serve the armed forces abroad, you have no chance of getting out of it altogether. If you don't want money to leave your account each month, tot up what the total will be from now until the time you leave and pay that up front. As long as you give the right notice as the poster above says, it'll effectively work out as an early termination fee.

Sky will, in some cases, cancel the contract within the minimum term. They will do everything in their power to stop you though, but if they do cancel it your early termination charge will be the equivalent if what you would have paid up to the end of the 12 months, on the lowest package, plus HD or Multiroom ETCs also.
  • I have just posted the note below on the 'Sky Community'......so this is now my second ever post!

I have never posted on any message board before but feel compelled record details of my treatment.
I would like to make other Sky subscribers, or potential subscribers, aware of the tortuous route Sky put you through if you try to cancel your subscription. There appears to be a direct tactic deployed to try and prevent people from unsubscribing.
    1. Sky provide a premium rate number for you to call (0844 241 0266). The good news is there is an 0800 number available - visit 'saynoto0870'.
    2. The calls are not answered for about 10 minutes.
    3. When the call was answered I was then cut-off before completing my request.
    4. When I got through eventually the second time the call was answered by Chris - code name 'CHM24'. He would not give his full name for 'security reasons'. What's the problem? Why wouldn't you give your full name if you were happy with the service you were providing your customers? Other call centre staff from other companies give their full name.
    5. He seemed rather thrown when I informed him I was recording the call (which I thought I better in anticipation fo how I might be treated).
    6. My main complaint is I had to repeat my request 'can I please cancel my subscription' multiple times over a period of about 7 minutes. Eventually he said he had executed the request. I have no evidence, apart from the call, that he has done so. You would think that Sky would provide a letter or email confirmation.
I am likely to ever return? No, of course not. Why would anyone, given the treatment you get and the fact that you can get your viewing elsewhere for free?
Anyway, enough said. I hope this helps others and I would urge anyone to consider becoming a Sky customer very carefully.

All of this is already well documented. I'm not a fan of premium rate "customer services" 'phone numbers either.
However, I can't say I'm surprised that the operator refused to give you his full name; you then went on to post the professional designation he uses on an internet message board!

I'm not sure why you are so against Sky based on only your cancellation experience? Has Sky's service overall been poor? Why would anyone "consider very carefully being a Sky customer" just because you personally took seventeen minutes to cancel?

    This thread is from 2012.
  • Try to understand that most of these type of company's don't care one iota for you its all about your money, they will do everything in their power to keep you, delaying tactics promising you free services and even lie's.I was lied to about a contract with sky but they called it a "training issue" so they wont even admit it when caught red handed, just understand that its all about your money and act with that in mind.I would always say to look at the pitfalls as well as the benefits before signing up to anything.

    Enjoy the jungle
