Same problem here... colleague looked online today and found something that said ants don't like cinnamon or peppermint.

I've just been out there with a jar of cinnamon, who wants to try peppermint? :D

    Hi,

Having a big problem with anthills in my front lawn!

Prior to moving in, an elderly lady lived here and the garden was overgrown.

I relaid the lawn last year, and tried to kill off the ants using Nippon and other nasties before I laid it. However, the little !!!!!!s are still there making a mess  !

Can anyone recommend a way of ridding the lawn of them? I tried a green method last year by using nematodes, but with little success.

    Many thanks!

    Phil

You'll never win - ants are the most successful creatures out there! Best thing to do is to rake the hills as they appear, especially before you cut the grass to reduce the mess and keep your lawn in a reasonable condition.
I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!

I have 6 strawberry plants in pots (3 plants to a pot) coming along quite nicely and flowering well, but have noticed thousands of ants clawling about them.......
If I was to pour boliling water into the pots, what are the chances of the plants surviving?

    Hi there,

Don't use boiling water! You will kill your plants. Just use cold water & keep wetting them until the ants get the hint. They will eventually move on!

Boiling water will just cook the plants.I gently hose my strawberry plants down along with any other ant covered plants a few times a day and as bina says they get the message in the end.

Ants love sweet, sticky things so maybe place a pot with some jam/syrup in it to lead them away from your strawberries?

I remember a couple of summers ago my son spilled some strawberry juice on his bedroom window sill and within a few hours we had an army of ants marching up the outside wall to get to it :rotfl:
