  • Given the shower was broken for a week, it was lovely to know the British Heart Foundation shop got the full benefit of his Gucci Shirts , golf clubs etc... we did however swap the nice dinner plates for the chipped ones he'd left... We were paying for the house and the furniture, not to be free self-storage.

    Quite right too!!! :rotfl:

Whilst I agree with many other posters that the LL really should take the table out, or at least let you dispose of it, I wonder, if you want to keep the peace and intend to live there a long time, if you would be better selling your own table and using the LL's one?

That's my biggest concern aout pushing this too far really. While I'm pretty cheesed off at the LL's attitude of "don't want to get rid but not prepared to pay to store it," I do wonder if being too belligerent about it will only cut our nose off to spite our face. Our situation (re. dogs and dodgy credit) means it is so difficult to find somewhere to rent and we are incredibly happy with this place, I am very reluctant to rock the boat too much.

Our last dining table was taken to the tip at Christmas as there are only so many repairs to a £10 admag ancient table you can make, and it had served us for a good 7 years! So on moving here, we bought a nice new one from IKEA which I love and would really like the opportunity to use!

So, having listened to all you lovely people (thanks for all the replies - really appreciate it!) and thought about it for a while, I think we have 2 options.

    1. We write a letter through the MC saying that unless the items are removed within the next 14 days, we will dispose of them ourselves.

    2. We write a letter through the MC saying that unless the items are removed within the next 14 days we will store them in the garden shed but will not be held accountable for any deterioration in condition that occurs during the time they are stored in the garden shed.

What do you think? I'm going to add my first ever poll to this website!!! :T

I'd put it in the shed right now and write a polite email to both LL and LA to let them, know what you've done.

I'd be polite about it but just point out that their simply isn't the room inside the house but that you will be as flexible as you can with regards to arranging collection of the item.

I think it's reasonable, you've already asked enough times and I really couldn't stand to live with a manky piece of someone elses furniture!
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
  • OK - have spoken to the MC - who think this is a great solution - and have sent them the following email to forward to the LL.

    Dear LL,

With reference to the dining table and chair that have been left inside the property.

While we understand your reluctance to dispose of the items, we are keen to find a resolution to this situation as currently we are unable to fully use the dining room. The property was marketed as unfurnished and it is on this basis that we rented it.

Therefore, unless the items are removed within 7 days from the date of this email, we will store both the table and chair in the garden shed. We will not be held responsible for any deterioration in the condition of either the table or chair while they are stored in this location.

We trust that this arrangement satisfactorily resolves the issue.

    Yours sincerely,

Thanks for all your help! And the mental stories about cheapskate landlords - made me laugh and that's always a bonus!
