How often do banks tell you they have a better option for more savings interest or cheaper loans?? (the rules are changing though)
A pensioner friend is pestered @ the bank too often about moving money and in-house home contents. (he even lost money because they sold him the wrong bond account and he got less back than he paid in!)
There was something on Moneybox and staff were ringing in saying they had targets to meet @ their banks.0 -
I collected a fairly large bankers draft from my bank and was asked if it was for a house purchase deposit. I said no, and she asked what it was for. I was feeling fragile and wanted to end the onversation, so explained (truthfully) that it was to pay inheritance tax after my mum's death. The lady didn't miss a beat. "And what are you planning to do with your inheritance?". I know it is their job to sell (my dad was a bank manager) but have some compassion! She must have noticed that I was fighting back tears. My husband had to take over, bless him.0

I wouldn't have applied without a pre-approval and wonder whether you peeked at the customer's behaviour score before going ahead
Not sure what you mean here.0 -

Which would be as soon as they opened their mouth0 -
Its a sales thing. The staff have targets to meet. Many of them don't like doing it but have to at least try. It was the same when I worked in a branch 15 years ago - I hated doing it but there were targets and I wanted to keep my job, do well and earn a pay rise and a bonus.
No point in getting stressed about it as its not going to change any time soon. Just be polite and say no thanks or tell a little white lie to get them off your back. I recently took some cash out of one bank to pay into an ISA in another. As soon as the expected 'what are you doing with it?' question came I said I was buying a new car and already had my insurance sorted. No harm done and the sales pitch ended there and then.0 -
I take into consideration that bank staff are human, probably poorly paid, and only trying to do their job. If I don't want to tell them why I am paying in, or why there is a largish balance in the account, I simply tell them that I am okay thank you.
If this is too difficult other options are to tell them you are buying a car.
I never have a problem with a cashier asking me these sort of questions. because I am not a t w a t.0 -
Can't believe that people get so strung up about being asked a question from an employee of a company that they choose to do business with.
Really is it that stressful being asked? Is it the worst thing in the world that can happen? Be grateful for what you have, be grateful that someone is showing an interest in you. How would you feel if you were spoken to in the same manner you reply back to the colleague?
As for the person investing in sardines, that's really interesting, so tell me is it a sardine business you are setting up there as we can help you Mr Sardine man, or if you are collecting them our house insurance policy will cover them for you would you like a quote?0 -
"I'm not interested in any products, thank you". 6 words, 8 words if you want to be polite.
Welcome to the world with other people in it.0
