  • I have been trying this myself and have done considerable research into the matter. I think for some people depression and anxiety may be predominantly psychological so in those cases a placebo or some form of psychological therapy may be enough. I think if a condition is physiological also then these supplements may well help. There are also various co factor nutrients and enzymes involved when producing serotonin from 5-HTP so if people are deficient in those then it may not work much anyway. I wish there were simple answers to these problems but I think it is a very individual thing, I do feel it helps me though.
  • yes. I tried the 5htp . it makes me sleep well. and improve the mood. cheers.

  • Thanks for this, very interested to read opinions and experiences of this.

I don't class myself as depressed, however I do get horrendous PMT and spend a week of the month very upset and angry and generally feeling down.

I had heard of St John's Wort but I've also read that you can't take it with the pill (I have the progesterone only one as the mirena hormones made my PMT 365 days a year) or high blood pressure and it was through googling that I heard about 5HTP. Haven't bought any yet as haven't done proper research - will start looking it up properly now :)
  • Returning after taking them for about 4-5 months. I bought them from Amazon - 200mg a day and I do have to say my mood has improved tenfold same with the PMT. I wasn't 'depressed' in a serious sense but as a carer there's a lot of low moments but these have REALLY helped.
