Look at it this way, the queue will be good practice for the return and getting through UK immigration.

If they only open the desk(s) two hours before flight departure, and there are more than two hours' worth of passengers to process, then inevitably some of them are not going to get through in time, even if everyone starts queueing six hours in advance. That's what doesn't seem to add up.

As long as you are at the front of the queue then don't worry about it.

UK airports and airlines are hell but it's not helped by the number of men who simply take ages to empty their pockets of coins and take their belts off at security. Oddly women who have to take of high heels and belts are quicker.

Oh and if you don't arrive on time don't expect to go in front of other passengers especially if they are business travellers who time their departure precisely. The number of people who have tried it on with me get told firmly to f*** off.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

    Absolute rubbish.

Women may not take ages to empty their pockets, but I've lost count of the number of times I've seen the security queue backing up because some dozy woman didn't realise that "liquids gels and pastes" includes moisturisers and lip balms.
