I've used EMA a few times, although not for a while now. On at least one occasion the security queue was stupidly long (fortunately for us, on that occasion the airline had given us free speedy security, so we just went straight to that queue which was much shorter). So I guess it's just a badly-run airport. I mostly use the London airports these days and I haven't had any long waits for security recently.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
Can't comment on the airline haven't flown with them but they seem to be making a profit in these hard times which is an achievement in itself. As for the airport, its a lovely regional airport, we're lucky to have a choice of ema, manchester, birmingham and doncaster in our area and most of our customers ask for EMA as first choice each time.
Whilst those points may well be true.... The airline know exactly how many people will be turning up at their bag drop desks at certain times. They know this because they know how many passengers have elected to book hold baggage. They should therefore supply enough desks/staff to ensure that people can check-in in a timely fashion based on the timescale they suggest. This will be done by a third party handling agent, but that is no excuse, the airline should be on top of its contractors.
Same for the airport, they know how many people will be travelling through the airport at different times each day and should ensure there are enough security staff/facilities to cope. I last travelled from EMA a couple of years ago, and then the security queue was way back into the check in halls, so it's obviously a problem there.
That a passenger cannot arrive for a short haul flight 2 hours before departure at an airport the size of EMA,without the fear of missing it, is an embarrassment.0 -
He's also the tool who unclicks his seatbelt and stands up the second the aircraft arrives on stand, despite the Captain not having switched off the sign.Bob_the_Saver wrote: »I'm always sat next to him as well, (don't forget his refusal to put the seat back upright) you'd think he'd have learnt by now. This space has been intentionally left blank0 -

And checks his mobile for missed calls/texts during the flight when he thinks no-one is looking.......................0 -
there is now 1 hour 15 minutes before the flight leaves. Now we hit the line for security
There's not much of an issue with the airline here, it's all about the airport.
0500 in the morning appears to be the rush hour at many airports because so many planes start their day between 0600 and 0700.
Airports often talk about the average time to get through security. It would be nice to see the figures for each hour of the day.0 -
I once tried to check in luggage from a flight from Treviso 2 hours 30 minutes before and the Ryanair representative told me to wait until 2 hours exactly! But having to wait an hour in a security queue is not acceptable, airports should now how many flights/passengers will be flying at each time of the day.0

In my experience, this rarely happens with Ryanair flights as most passengers arrive as soon as the gate opens in order to guarantee seats with their travelling companions.Bob_the_Saver wrote: »I wish I had a quid for every time I've sat of a flight whilst they off-load bags from Pax that have gone walkabout - often to a bar in another terminal, serves them right.0 -

Yes I agree, that's another advantage of flying with Ryanair, sadly it happens all too often with other airlines.0 -

You have to allow extra time at Stanstead just to get through their stupid revolving doors
