Hearing test ?

I seem to be turning the Tv up more recently and the last few weeks have been struggling to hear at work.
Can I just book a hearing test somewhere like you would an eye test or do you go to the GP ? Just not sure what the usual thing to do it ! Thanks

Go to your GP as you should get a referral. If you go to anyone else you could end up shelling out for an expensive hearing aid which would be free on the NHS.

Downside is it can take time.

Go to your GP. Your symptoms seem to have come on fairly quickly too, so who knows if it's even your hearing. You could have wax in your ears or catarrh.

I would go to your GP hun, they will be able to look in your ears and see if there is a build up of wax or cattarh, if not then you can be referred to the ENT department at your local hospital, the referral list can take a little while to get an appointment but the hearing tests are nice and quick and simple.

As others have said, go and see your gp, and get a referal.

From seeing my gp to referal and getting my original hearing aids in 2009, it was 9 weeks.

Recent I asked to be refered again, and was, 4 weeks in total, just had my aids adjusted to suit my current level of hearing.

All quite painless and free of charge. (execept for car parking charge!!)

Thanks everyone. I do also feel a little dizzy and sometimes feel like there is pressure like when in a plane. Will call the GP thanks.

You could try this hearing test, it will give you some evidence to present to your GP

Boots do hearings tests and you are not obliged to buy a hearing aid, we did though and it has been excellent.

Get a referral to the audiology department. If you need a hearing aid they will advise. NHS hearing aids sit outside the ear. If you are not happy about that (as in my case) you can go to a high street hearing centre who do 'invisible' aids which sit inside the ear.

First stop though should be your GP. Good luck!
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

There is a dedicated thread on the Disability and Dosh board on Help for Hearing Impairment, may be worth a look. Although the advice you have hear is correct!

You don;t need any evidence to see your GP with, just book an appointment.

They will check in your ears for wax, then you book in for a hearing test. Mine was done within a week IIRC.

One of my eardrums is dull, and I do have some hearing loss but not enough for hearing aids, so it didn;t really help me, except for me to know I can hear well in a quiet test room but not in a busy crowd!

Just ask your GP and it will all be free. Doesn;t take long either.
