I am trying to sort out an issue with my ppi refund which has been awarded from Halifax back in Feb!!! I still havent had it and have written and called numerous times. The number I have for them redirects me to the Phillipines and I dont seem to be able to get any understanding out of them, its like they are robots using a script!!!!
Does anyone know of a number I can call which will keep me in this country???

Tell me about it. Everytime i have rung about my claim i get put through to people who clearly do not have a clue and have been lied to each time. Could you not write in, email or ring the main halifax line and explain what is happening?0

I cannot believe that the Halifax Bank can legally get away with the way they are handling the Missold PPI claims. At the time of taking out my PPI with them it was basically suggested that it was in my interest to have, and so I agreed.
6 years later I was made redundant but wasnt concerned as I had my PPI safety net, I could never have imagined what was about to happen next, I went to My Halifax branch and was given 2 forms, 1 to be signed by my former employer to state that I had in fact been made redundant and detail any monies owed to me, the other to take to the Department of Social Security for them to sign, the Department of Social Security I was informed had to sign weekly to confirm that I was 'actively seeking work', this is where it all turned sour!! the department of social security told me that as I was a single parent the law stated that I didnt have to actively seek work and as such they could not sign my form!.
I returned to the Halifax and relayed the conversation, you know excatly what happened next, the Halifax couldn't process my claim because I couldnt get the form signed..I returned with my begging bowl to the Social security who stated again that they couldnt legally sign it but no worry because as a single parent my bills would be honored by the state!. I was so angry that I had been dutifully paying for six years for an insurance that I could never have claimed.
When I saw the adverts to reclaim missold PPI I thought the day of judgement had come.. after calling them and explaining my case they said they would get back to me, one or two weeks later I received a letter saying they had looked at my case and didnt feel they could uphold my claim!!! why?? on what grounds?. the letter said call the number above if you would like to discuss the decision, I called the number above and got through to Manila Philipinnes! I asked for the signatory on the letter and was told 'parrot fashion' that I could contact the Ombudsman if I didnt agree, the letter says I can discuss it with the signatory?, you can contact the ombudsman if you disagree? but the letter says, " you can contact the ombudsman if you disagree".. I related the whole case to the Filipino guy who said that he had written verbatum what I felt was my case, he assured me that I would get an answer from the Halifax Bank.
I did, it said thank you for the call but our position is the same!!, how are they allowed to tell you they disagree without any explanations?? how do you explain to a guy in the philipinnes my position with regard to the Social security laws?,he didnt understand "social Security" as the Philipinnes dosn't have such a thing, the letter also said I could contact the signatory on the above number, guess which number, yes the Philipinnes..
I now have a great business plan, I am going to sell secondhand cars and the number of my complaints departmant should the car be found unfit for purpose will be answered in the Democratic republic of Congo, my employee will then in broken English state that he doesnt feel they have a case nor does he have to explain his decision, Yes thats perfectly legal!!!!!! I'm also going to buy up every second hand car sales in the area so that no matter where they think they'll take their custom, the money will still come to me and the frustration will still be theirs!
The good old British Banks who have a total Monopoly. The politicians cant stop them because of the effect upsetting them will have on the economy or worse still the politicians dividend, how do they sleep at night, I guess if you have the perfect scam its easy...if your consience starts to wake you up just count your cash until you fall soundly asleep again0 -

Thanks for your long (and entertaining) post; now refer your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service!

I know. They have paid out far too much than they should have done. Taxpayers and shareholders should be very unhappy about that.my former employer to state that I had in fact been made redundant and detail any monies owed to me, the other to take to the Department of Social Security for them to sign, the Department of Social Security I was informed had to sign weekly to confirm that I was 'actively seeking work', this is where it all turned sour!! the department of social security told me that as I was a single parent the law stated that I didnt have to actively seek work and as such they could not sign my form!.
You are required to sign on. It looks like you were encouraged not to sign on but you should have done.
You are blaming Halifax but in this case, they are not to blame.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

I still think a FOS referral is in order...0 -
I wondered about the position of the Department of Social Security as well, but surely Halifax is equally culpable in not explaining that it was perfectly possible for a single mum to declare herself unemployed and available for work?
bank staff are not required to know the DSS rules. I doubt many would.
i suspect the DSS pushed the single mum benefit instead as that doesnt appear on unemployment figures.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I'm not going to disagree with you and it should be pursued. But I am not sure how likely it will succeed. However, the anger that is currently pointed at Halifax should be directed to the DSS. They encouraged/persuaded/told the OP not to register as unemployed.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Dunston H,
Forgive me if im missing something but you appear to say I should have Immidiatly signed on which I eventually had to but my anger at the Halifax is because firstly I had paid my PPI contribution faithfully for 6 years and then when I needed to claim couldn't, secondly I cannot contact the person who is making the final decisions which are based upon a report generated by a person whose first language isn't English (from the posts above it seems i am not alone)and finally I am not being advised of why they do not feel I have a case (I feel that the responses received from this site have positively changed my viewpoint somewhat, why cant the Halifax explain themselves)
My belief is that I was sold something I couldnt use and therefore feel I should have that money refunded, you appear to say thats its not the Halifax bank staffs responsibility to know the DSS rules nor understand my personal situation, as such it is therefore my responsibility and furthermore I should have refused the PPI knowing that my bills were covered anyway.. If that is what you are saying then surely they dont have to pay out any alledged missold PPI due to it being the responsibility of the purchaser for purchasing a product that isnt suitable, appologies if I have the wrong end of the stick. Confused and looking for enlightenment, I am unfortunatly a layman when it comes to money matters.
one more question, with the above considered, ie single parent and covered for eventualities due to having young dependants, where would my PPI have been of use, it appears that were I to suffer an industrial injury for example the DSS would have covered me, I cant think of a situation whereby the PPI would have come into its own, what was I paying for?0
