Virgin Superhub

anyone using one ?
Got one coming on Friday but reading reviews its seems its got problems with Wifi and most are just using it in modem only mode and still using their own router

Seems its had a few firmware upgrades already to try and cure the fault
Have a nice day :)

Yes the range is rubbish but bear in mind if you use it in modem mode, every time it resets itself (which seems ridiculously often) it resets all its settings and you have to go back in and change it to modem mode again!
Meaning everything plugged in to your router won't work until you've plugged a cable back in to the Superhub and changed it back. It's a joke!

    Odd.

Looks like you have a duff box - I switched to modem only mode due to the poor wifi and constant dropping of signal but the modem modem itself is absolutely rock solid - in fact, the last time I reset it was January and that was only because I had a spark in doing some work to the house.

I've recently swapped out from a DLink 605 to a TP Link 1043ND which has massively improved the range of wifi.

The superhub is fine, as long as its in modem only mode.

I'm using mine for both and despite the horror stories is giving good service, although the range is less than my old setup it is working well.
  • Please Please Please do not upgrade it seems like a good idea but the WIFI hubs do not deliver 60mb we are getting 2 and 3 meg on speedtest.net when we had a completely reliable service before we upgraded now have nothing but problems which VM seem to be either denying or doing nothing about. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

You need to do your research (and your husband, the IT consultant should know this) that wifi will NOT deliver 60mb consistently on home based equipment.

You can ONLY say the service is poor when the connection is tested on a wired connection, direct to the router.

Additionally remember the traffic shaping will kick in if used excessively in peak.

I have a problem with my 50mb line at the moment, so there are issues around, but be clear on what you are saying, the grounds upon which you are basing your results are leaky, at best.

I have one. It was a free upgrade. Its never been a problem apart from... Xmas time 5 new wireless routers appear in my block of flats. The auto channel finder wasnt finding a clear channel for the wifi so was suddenly getting lots of drop outs. Simply set it to manual and found a channel that works myself. Sorted.
