Insurance Fronting Question
After reading another thread on here it has thrown up a question in my head.
Myself and my wife drive the same car. The car is in my name, the V5 is in my name and I insure it in my name. (we switch insurance between us each year to retain our NCD (this year it's the 'cheaper year' as I have more years NCD than her.
We both use the car daily, none of us really use it more than the other but I am down as the main user of the car.
If she had a bump, would the insurance company think I was fronting and ask to see all the documents or would this only be the case for young drivers ie sons or daughters as named drivers on policies?

I doubt it would be considered fronting, if the insurance insist an individual main driver is identified and provide no option for naming two people. Even if you only drove it for a new minutes more each year than your wife, you would still be the main driver."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

If you're both using it equally, one of you has to be the main driver!
I don't see you're doing anything wrong.0 -
That's good. I was starting to worry a bit lol0

You're clear. Fronting is aimed at people where the insured does say 50 miles a week and the higher risk named driver does 200 miles a week.0

But what if the 200 miles was done once a week in a a few hours, and the other 50 was over 6 days a week in stop start traffic just to work and back so you actually are in the car for longer?
Fronting was so much simpler in my day.0 -

And isn't aimed between married couples. There's a legal financial entity between married partners that doesn't exist with other relationships.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

It is all a bit confusing.
We've got two cars. Missus drives a Citroen most days, so is insured as main driver, me as named driver.
I am insured as main driver of an Alfa, with her as named driver.
Citroen has broken down, so she is currently using Alfa every day. This means that her weekly mileage is much, much higher than mine (as I rarely use the car), so technically she is now the main driver.
So should we be informing the insurance company? What is the tipping point between being a main and named driver?0 -

If you're married it doesn't matter.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

Fronting occurs to lower the risk and therefore the premium. It's common where Dad aged 50 fronts for 17 year old Son on his Vauxhall Peenaro VXR. With a married couple the risk is often similar. The man without a signature.0

That is fantastic news for pervy old men trying to pick up an 18 year old stunner in a bar.
