Cancellation of 3 contract

Hi

I am currently 18 months into a 24 month contract with 3.

I havew just moved to an area of the country that has no signal what so ever!! I can only use my phone when I am at work.

I contacted 3 and advised them of the problem, and they said that as they are hoping to improve the service in the area soon, they will not cancel my contract.

The best that they can do is reduce my monthly bill by £2 to compensate me!!!

That or pay £195 to leave the contract. I am fuming!!

Whilst I understand I have signed up to the contract, surely they have to provide the service that I have signed up for?

Do I have a leg to stand on?

Many Thanks

    No.

Read the ts + cs and you will see they don't guarantee national coverage.

(It is you who have changed the goalposts by moving).

Best you can hope for is forget the "fuming" attitude, and try for a better goodwill gesture. (Though you had no "rights" to any, so the one on offer is a genuine "gesture")

Not fuming at them, just at the situation!

I did offer to pay £100 there and then, but they wouldn't have that either!

No - it is a pity, but another of the reasons that going for a contract is never a good idea. With PAYG you can chop and change without restrictions. The fact that they have indicated improved future coverage is excellent news, and hopefully your issues will be resolved soon.

They don't guarantee coverage nationwide, and quite frankly I think it's a bit rich of you expecting them to just cancel the contract because you moved to an area with no coverage.

If it's such a big problem, why not just pay the cancellation charge and move on?

They're called contracts for a reason, you can't just leave whenever feel like it, especially when the degredation in service is directly down to you moving house.

Again, this is unrealistic of you to expect them to cut you any "deal".

A contract protects both sides - in this case, they are protected against you choosing to move away from the good reception you had to a poor reception area, then wanting them to release you.

If you cannot use the phone at work, and it is therefore useless to you, either see if a friend wants to take it over, or go for the cancellation, as they do knock off a little from the full amount you would be paying if you carry on with the monthly payments. (Assuming the £2 they offered is a tariff reduction, rather than a monthly discount - in which case it's probably cheaper to carry on paying.)

Reportedly you can downgrade by more than £2 during the last 100 days of the minimum term. Don't take my word for this though...

Speak to their technical people, you might be able to get a home signal box out of them.

They didnt offer me one a few months ago when I rang to complain that since they lost their mast share in my area my signal had reduced dramatically-and that was inspite of my signal cutting out while I was on the phone to them and their advisor calling me back.

They did however offer me one last week when I rang to tell them to cancel my contract as I was finally in the last 30 days. Told them no thanks!!!!
