When I fist had Frikadellen while living in Germany and buying them from Holland in the late 70's they tended to have horse meat or pork in them. This recipe says Beef & Pork, but I might give this a go.

My Lidl now has them back in with the name Frikadellen on them, for a while they were beef or chicken patties (or something like that) they were not the same though even though they looked to be, they were very cerealy).

I agree, they don't taste like I remember, but then again when you stagger out of the NAAFI at got knows what time & head to the local Schnellie or the Chicken Inn at the side of the JR mess, your tastebuds aren't exactly the best!lol

This is our favourite pork mince recipe (I also make it with turkey mince)

Please note, it should say curry paste not sauce - I use madras but you could use whatever paste suits your taste.

(I often leave the potatoes out and just increase the mushrooms/peas)

Saw this recipe for spicy pork on little gems recently (scroll down a bit). It looks really tasty and I'll be giving it a go soon.

I use pork (and turkey) mince for anything you'd use minced beef for. They're cheaper and lower in fat. In a Bolognese sauce, chilli con carne or keema curry, I can't taste any difference. I batch cook and freeze, so I usually can't remember what I made it with. If using it in a cottage pie, then "beef" it up with an OXO cube, but adjust any salt accordingly.

I've got some lamb & mutton mince in the freezer and I'm keeping it for something special. A proper shepherd's pie. Lamb burgers with a little bit of mint or mint sauce.

PS. Lamb kofta meatballs sound tempting ...
