Local Tyre Garage HELL !!!

 I recently sent my car into a local garage in the Cheadle Heath, Stockport for two front new tyres, two new front wishbones, handbrake cable. I was charged £446 for the work. I picked the car up on Friday and have been away since today. I got back and noticed my car (which had been parked on the drive) had a bubble in the wall of one of the new tyres. The garage is across the road from my house. I visited them today after returning from holiday and they refused to replace the tyre which they had supplied.

Was in ripped off with the price?

Where do I stand on the replacement tyre?:(

you insist they send the tyre back to the relevant maker/importer for appraisal
you will have to buy another tyre though to keep you mobile

to be honest if they are a professional setup they could tell straight away if carbuncle is tyre fault fitting fault or user error
  • A bubble in the tyre is always worth getting checked out. A bubble in the sidewall can mean a couple of things - the lining inside the tyre hasn't full sealed and air is leaking through, causing the bubble or most commonly impact damage.

When I say impact damage this could be as simple as bumping up a curb, pavement. This causes weakness in the sidewall and for it to bubble or create an egg-like shape.

You can always go back to the garage and ask them to send it back to the manufacturer for inspection. All you do is fill out a form. An inspection can be carried out on the tyre to see what the cause is. The only thing with this is that you'll need another tyre on your vehicle in the mean time.

If your wheels have any kerbing marks or scuffs they could just claim you may have caused the damage yourself.

It's pretty difficult for anyone to tell you if you've been ripped off on the price unless you say what tyres you got fitted. On my last company car tyres were £250 each, on my current car they are £60 each, a tyre for a Bugatti Veyron costs around £6,000.

You can check the price online at https://www.blackcircles.com. We've used them lots and get our tyres fitted via Blackcircles at John Daley Motors who are opposite the Audi dealership at the Pyramid motorway junction in Stockport. Always had a good service there and presumably 5 mins fro you.

£446 seems very reasonable for the work done and I guess these must have been very cheap tyres?

Nevertheless, you should get better after sales service. Have they said why they are refusing to replace the tyre? For example, have they said it is mechanical damage caused by you kerbing the wheel?

I would not drive a car with a defective tyre, it could be very dangerous.

Hard to tell without knowing the parts prices, but there must be 3hrs labour min £50/hr. So sounds generally ok.
Last car wishbones were around £55 each shopping around, previous car hand brake cable around £35 if French or Jap its costly.

    Are these tyres cheap asian?
As above mounting a curb can cause a bulge, check for a scuff, if not confront them.

How do you draw either of those conclusions from the OP?
