The sale of goods act says that in the first 6 months it's up to the supplier to prove that it wasn't faulty at the point of sale.

paddedjohn were talking about a tyre that the OP could just as easily have kerbed/put down a pot-hole 10 feet away after having it fitted new. Please people, stop looking for inappropriate legislation to solve your ills!
OP, if you are sure you've done nothing wrong, as above, get back to the fitter, explain you are not happy and escalate it with them.

Indeed the op could have done. And as paddedjohn rightly says, if the supplier takes the tyre back, sends it away, and proves the damage is of the type caused by kerbing it, they will have complied, and proved the damage wasn't there when they sold it. The op is free to have it professionly investigated as to the type of damage as well. However, the op doesn't need to, as it's up to the supplier to prove how the damage was caused.

This is not inappropriate legislation at all, it's there to protect the consumer in cases like this. OP, if you are certain you havnt kerbed the tyre take it back and ask them to get it checked.

I know wha was said in #2 and I'm in complete agreement, how does my post veer off track ? I'm only pointing out that the OPs rights.

By the way I worked as a manager/mot inspector in a large tyre shop earlier in my life so I do know how tyres get damaged and I had queries like the ops maybe once or a month and 9 times out of 10 it was the drivers fault
