Virgin website states " there are two great ways to get broadband
* by fibre optic cable ( on cable )
* or down your phone line ( non-cable )
Either way you can look forward to a better service............"

There is nothing in the small print to say the offer of £10 a month for 2mb unlimited is only the price for cable. They want me to pay £15 per month for the same package, they say they have made a mistake in the wording !

As I have already ordered broadband through phone with them only to have two men turn up wanting to drill holes and stuff and to be told it would be £15 for phone line broadband and now they are selling broadband through the phone for £10 a month which is what I wanted arnt they suposed to sell it to me at that price ?

I thought if you picked up a tin of beans in a shop that had 1p price lable on it they had to sell it to you for that price !

Has anyone managed to get broadband through the phone for £10 a month ?

  • I have been with NTL now Virgin for a number of years, over this time they've made numerous mistakes on my account and overcharged me (I've always got the money back eventually), for this reason I prefer to pay my bill by bank transfer, up until 6 months ago NTL charged £1 for the privilege now virgin have slapped a £5 monthly charge on my bill for not paying by direct debit. Speaking to their customer services got me nowhere has anyone got any ideas on how to get them to drop this as I feel it is outrageous to charge me £60 a year when I pay on time and electronically at that!
  • Thanks, I think I will go with mad as a fish

    A retailer doesn't have to sell an item at the marked price

    Generally speaking, in contract law terms, a retailer doesn't have to sell an item at the marked price. For there to be a binding contract there has to be an offer which has been accepted. In the context of sale of goods, the offer is made by the customer when they present the goods at the payment point (if the customer offers to buy the goods at the marked price).

    The till operator is then free to accept, or reject, that offer. This means that if a till operator spots that goods have been mispriced, they can reject a customer's offer to buy at the incorrect price, and offer the customer the chance to buy at the correct price.

    The customer may decline or accept that offer as he or she chooses. Inevitably, retailers will make the odd mistake over pricing, but if you become aware that a certain retailer makes a regular habit of doing it, we suggest you report the retailer to the trading standards department of your local authority. In certain circumstances, misleading pricing will amount to a criminal offence, and trading standards departments have the authority to investigate, and, if appropriate, prosecute.
