hi
am new to this site... well the forum side of it... but today ive been prompted to post... today i was overcharged by one of the uk supermarket chains by 38p!! i know that sounds like a nothing amount... and maybe it is.. and thats why i didnt go back instore to correct it.. but since ive been home ive calculated that this large store could potentially be making an extra 23,000.00 they are not entitled to.. and thats based on an overcharge of 38p to 100 customers, over 12 mths on approx 520 stores!! this made me furious...ive complained to the store and recommended they amend their current system for scanning reduced items.. i prob sound really tight, and im not, it just ticks me off when i think how we sometimes dont go back and complain when we should!! going forward i will always return in store.. even if it costs more in petrol or transport fares.. just out of principal..
thanks all..

Yes the self service tills do work but they didnt overcharge you, what overcharged you was the stores computer system that holds the data eg the prices which is then connected to the checkouts/self service tills.0

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -
Should I go back and complain that when I bought a couple of reduced "BOGOF" items the other day, the till deducted the FULL price - I wouldn't like people to think that I was ripping the supermarket off (or "extorting" as someone put it the other day !!)0

Two sides to a coin...
How many would go back and say that they'd been undercharged because the store had not put out a new lower price??0 -
I lost almost £6 to a supermarket yesterday - I bought some mouth ulcer treatment along with a few other things and used the self checkouts.
When I scanned the box an alarm went off requesting assistance, and another alarm was sounding (something to do with a fire door being opened).
Anyhow in the confusion I scanned the item twice. Didn't notice until I got home
I decided not to go back ---- how would I prove I had only purchased one?
My own fault I will be more careful in future!0 -
Oh my god, people making mistakes, shock horror.
Mistakes happen, even in a massive supermarket chain. They are not trying to steal from you, rip you off or abuse you. A mistake was made.
Customers also have a responsibilty to check change and receipts. Common sense, no system is perfect!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
With some supermarkets it happens too often to be a mistake, probably just sloppy lazy local management.0

I doubt the management are the ones changing the SEL's (or not as the case maybe)
One other thing to consider some of the larger supermarkets send price changes through to the stores at various times of the day but only change SEL's once a day. I've seen this 100's of times. The longest i've seen is one product change price and the stores not notified for around 2 months.0
