Anglian Water

Options
Hi all, I have rang today once again in annoyance how Im getting charged full rates for the supply to my HOLIDAY CHALET and was told again that because I pay a water bill else where I can not apply for the solo tariff unless it was my main residence! And this is where I throw the spanner in the works - the bills get sent to my home address in Derbyshire (billing property is in Lincolnshire) and the home address I live at in Derbyshire is my Parents house - so Yes they pay the water bill I DON'T but they can't seem to get that fact into their thick heads. What should or can I do??

Also the site closes from 31st October to 1st March no access allowed i.e. no water used but still get charged a standing charge even though as much as I would like to use the water I can't because the site is closed and therefore I am not allowed on to the private land upon which the chalet stands this to me is totally out of order and a complete rip-off.
Again, any ideas on what to do?

I look forward to any replies,

Thanks, Richard

Wouldn't you be much better off on a metered supply then?

Could not the OP already be on a meter? - you still pay standing charges with a meter and a chalet is unlikely to have a Rateable Value(RV).

    OP
Surely the point is that the chalet is not your main residence.?

How does your situation differ from, say, a married couple(say your parents) where the wife pays the water bill for their main residence and the husband owns the chalet and pays the water bill?

Would you expect the husband to get a reduced tariff for what is effectively a holiday home?

OP used the phrase 'full rates', which I assumed to mean RV billing?

  • Sorry, Yes the Chalet is on a water meter and its RV is band A council tax. I can see Cardew's point in a way but I'm not married, I suppose I could make the chalet to be my own residence?? Humm..

So are your bills based on the meter readings or on RV billing? It can't be both. If you have a meter installed but it has been disregarded then switch back to metered billing.
NB: your RV has absolutely nothing to do with your CT banding. It's a historical figure based on notional rental value in the 1980's.

  • Hi there, I am billed on quarterly metered readings on the standard tariff! I asked for the solo rate but as above could not qualify.

They also give another excuse on occasions that the standing charge is payable through the winter because the chalet is furbished - I asked the advisor which seems to wind them up "Ow I see so because the chalet is furbished does that mean the settee is going to take its self off to the toilet?"

Looking at other posts on here, I think my first step would be to wright a letter of complaint and work my way up to the top for a reply/resolvement, Then maybe the Consumer Council for Water if I get no joy with Anglian Water.

The conditions for the 'SoLow' tariff quite clearly state in several places:

Notes: We only offer the SoLow tariff to customers where
this charge is for their only or main home.

It is very clear that you don't qualify and have no cause for complaint to the Consumer Council for Water or indeed the company.

Why are you not putting the property into 'void' status during the winter as no water supply is needed. water cmpanies offer you the facility to opt to put the property into void which means no charges are incurred. but you need to ring up to set the account back up each spring.
