Quite. The local Scammerati used to stick a little sign up a few yards behind the van around Staffordshire's mobile sites. That seems to have stopped now.

Judging from the number of new posts on Pepipoo starting off "done for speeding, no signs warning of speed cameras" many seem(ed) to think no warning signs somehow provided a bar to prosecution, which has never been the case...

The last speed trap i saw was one of those comunity speed watch things in a 30mph zone, as there was no one behind me, i sailed past at 10mph and gave them a cheerful wave ( as in a genuine hand wave and smile - nothing offensive ) as i passed, one of the old blokes in a high vis jacket still pointed the speed gun at me just in case !

    Half_way,

I'm sure some civvy in a police van was in trouble last year for clicking the gun at every car when they are supposed to have reasonable cause to think you are speeding. In that case the old guy was acting illegally.

Yes, this is perfect example of where the police casually lie, and on a regular basis.

the law says the officer must 'forma an opinion' you are speeding, and then check it with the gun. As we all know, they simply stand there gunning every car that comes by. By on there statement they will write that they 'formed an opinion' first. Its a clear and blatant lie which will be repeated under oath if it goes to court, and demonstrates the casual disregard the police have for the law - they think they are above it
