Speed traps and warnings.

Is the purpose of a speed trap to reduce the speed of traffic, or to raise money?
If the former, drivers who tell others are contributing to that purpose.
But if the police do not want that to happen- then, inevitably, the latter must be the objective.0 -

As the level of compliance with speed limits increases, I just wonder how ... how can I put this kindly? ... "inventive" ... the Safety Camera Partnerships are going to become to keep their jobs. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

No. Read the original post. Glendinning vs DPP ruled it was NOT 'obstructing an officer' and therefore by extension, it cant be 'perverting', by virtue of the fact at the point you flash the other car there is no evidence an offence is being committed.
And yes, charging them with 'misuse of headlamps' is both an attempt to circumvent the High Court Ruling and a feeble attempt to intimidate drivers not to interfere with the Cash Cow.**** I hereby relieve MSE of all legal responsibility for my post and assume personal responsible for all posts. Perversely, the police involved in this exercise claim it is 'a dangerous practise' to make a speeding driver slow down.
So, are all those speed camera warning signs dotted around our roads now considered illegal AND dangerous????"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
What's wrong with putting up sign saying "speed tarp ahead" or "police lurking beside road take care" or "children take care". Surely it can be argued you were protecting the police and children from injury. How would a judge react to that?
Could always park up 300x ahead and put on a reflective jacket pointing a video camera at traffic just as they do in some busy villages. One thing I can't stand is underhand policing against the innocent motorist.0 -

Absolutely, its a classic case of wanting your cake and eating it. The Police HAVE to put up signs warning of the use of speed cameras by law, yet then take umbrage at anyone attempting to reinforce the warning, because of course, it reduces the cash take on the roadside cash machine. And thats the REAL point of this, as someone pointed out, its nothing to do with road safety (but then speed cameras arent) and all to do with revenue generation.**** I hereby relieve MSE of all legal responsibility for my post and assume personal responsible for all posts. Why not just drive within the speed limits and use the headlights for what they are designed for. That why no one has any problem. Just as an aside, the flashing of headlights to signal other road users to proceed (out of junctions for instance) is one of the biggest causes of accidents there is. Lets stop doing it please.Hi Ho Silver Awayyyyyyyyyy0

Unfortunately, that answer is bordering on the 'if you've nothing to hide, you've nothing to be scared of' which is complete bollox. I post on other forums about parking and speeding, and I can tell you if the traffic cop behind you has been told to write out 10 tickets tonight, it doesn't matter if you are innocent, he'll find a reason to give you one.
Its like if the copper decides he's going to arrest you, but you have done nothing arrestable, he'll soon come up with an excuse to do you for S.5 Public order. Ive seen cases of coppers completely fabricating traffic stops that never happened, colluding to make notes correct and even Mags Clrks backdating late papers (which is abuse of process).
You're making the same mistake people make with PPC's in that you're assuming the police are honest, moral, upright and incorruptible. They stopped being that 30 years ago.**** I hereby relieve MSE of all legal responsibility for my post and assume personal responsible for all posts. I think you missed the point, which was: FLASHING HEADLIGHTS CAUSES LOTS OF ACCIDENTS. And that's not bollox.Hi Ho Silver Awayyyyyyyyyy0
