DON'T be fooled, FUEL CARDS are a rip off and should be exposed.

I have used various cards and we have 3 vehicles. I have found them to be pretty useless so far. One company started charging us insurance on the card with out asking us and cgarged us a fee for the card despite saying it was no cost, one didnt tell us the price we were paying for the fuel (but still wanted to know why we were not using them!), and the last company started off 1-2ppl cheaper but then ended up 2-4ppl more expensive! We only realised this when we started writing the pump price on the reciept and then checking against the invoice price - when you are busy this is not easy to find the time!
Might just get a Teso/Morrisons card with FuelGenie - you pay the pump price which is already among the cheapest, and you get money off your groceries.........:T0 -
Mr Thrifty - You're right in a way, but if a company is clever and they play the supplier right they can save money on their fuel, this can be significant for Haulage and Transport. As a lot of these guys are Sole Traders they get taken advantage of as they don't always have time to check their invoices, I just want more people to be aware of the way these suppliers work and be more vigilant.
It seems like you have no clue how they work.
You fail to mention that price increases and drops are not passed on immediately and are changed once a month at best menaning there will be times when the card holder will be paying more than the average pump price and times when they'll be paying less.0 -
My old firm bought fuel in advance. When we goto the fuel station they didnt pay the pump price.
They just get the quantity of fuel deducted.
Key Fuels and BP were the main suppliers. As they swapped and changed a few times i guess it was down to price.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
it is very unfair that you have put all fuel cards under the same bracket. if you worked for a company that likes to take advantage of their customers that is one thing and i do admit that in the industry their are a few companies out there that take advantage but in all honesty, how well you are treated comes down to who manages your account rather than the company.
I work for a fuel card and have done for nearly 10 years a custom i bring into the business all get treated well, because i personally make sure that happens. i know my customers are happy as 90% of new customers i get come as recommendations for existing customers.
A bit of advise for everybody here would be, get to know your account manager well and they should look after you. ideally, go only for companies when you know who is in charge of your account and are given a direct contact to your account manager, that way you know who is responsible and the account manager know that if they do fall down on service, that it is all their own fault. it is amzing the difference that accountability can affect your treatment!

remember dont tie everyone with the same brush :T
Tar everyone with the same brush.
If you're going to tout for business you could at least use the correct terminology.
How could you "tie" people with a brush?

Hello all,
I have just started working for a company and have been asked to investigate getting a fuel car for the one pool car. The specification is that the card is issued for the car rather than in an individuals name. Is this possible and if so who would be the best supplier the company is based near Gatwick if that is of any relevance. I have no experience of fuel cards so any help would b appreciated.0 -

I am a sole trader and had a fuel card from Allstar about 18 months ago. At first they seemed fine, then they started charging me weekly for the use of the card. The next charge was from Experian and I found I was being charged VAT even though I'd already paid that at the pump!
Recently due to non payment by my own clients I defaulted on one invoice and found Allstar charged me £95!!!
If I have a DD returned I will pay the charges as I know it's my fault but £95 a week is criminal!0
