Car Advice - Seat Position

Renault Modus, and Citroen C3 are both high off the ground. I would say go for a 4 door, not 2. 2 doors have a lot of the door behind the front seat, to make getting in the back easier, but no difference to a front seat passenger. This means you can't open them as wide as the shorter 4 door version if someone is next to you, so they are a lot harder to get in and out of in car parks.

I think I'll be busy today having a look at all these. I'll get my dad to come along with me but he'll say it's not a problem getting in and out. Being the type of person he is, he won't want me to pick something on the grounds of how he is. He'll just laugh and say not to bother, he'll be dead soon anyway (he's in his 80's).

I saw a lovely little Z3 last night and walked away because there's no way he'd get out of that. I'd have to jack his side up.

    Renault Modus, .

Which is actually a Nissan Note except we weren't as keen on the design and the Nissan seems better equipped. Plus, it's almost like buying British as the Note is screwed together by some robots in Sunderland!

I struggle to get out of my sons' cars (Golf and Fiesta) but have no problem with my Note and daughter's Fiat Panda

Opinions 4 U, I would love to do that but it isn't the moving round to get out the car, it's the height of the seat in realtion to where the ground is and his knees not being great, bless him. I'll have a wander round our local Nissan dealer and have a look at the note.

Other question - when is it acceptable to tell a salesman to !!!! off. I had a wander round a few garages last night and was followed or talked at at every one. I like to browse and felt so uncomfortable but as I haven't bought a car in years, I don't know what to do as far as annoying sales people go.

I'm not sure what they're like now, but when I was looking for a car for myself for the same reason, the Mercedes A Class was the dog's you know whats! It might well be pants to drive and fall apart constantly but the seat position was great. The Meriva was the other possibility I considered.

It's always acceptable to tell the sales staff that you won't buy anything unless you are allowed to browse around by yourself. They want the commission, so they should do what you ask.

My mother-in-law finds the honda jazz and toyota yaris easier than other cars (slightly higher seats, doors which open wide), but cars like the ford C-Max even better still.

I've got a Honda Jazz but test drove a Nissan Note - similar car but the seats feel higher. Not sure whether that is better or worse though!

Both the Modus and the Note are based on the Renault Clio and are mechanically identical. I just had a loan Modus for a couple of days. High seating position, plenty of interior space, comfortable ride. I'm not in the market for that type of car but if I was I'd certainly consider one. 2008 models onwards are reputed to be better. As the Modus has now been discontinued for the UK market they might work out a bit cheaper than a Note. That said, there's always a lot of ex-Motability Notes around at reasonable prices.

The hyundi i10 has quite high seats. The only thing I have against 2 doors car is that unless you're carrying back seat passengers who are pretty nimble it becomes a 2 seater.
