I'm about to leave AOL (been with them for 9 years now!!).... fed up with it crashing etc etc.
Anyway! Need advice on what ISP to choose - was thinking Btinternet or Virgin. I want a fast connection with unlimited usage.
Can anybody give me some advice before i make the plunge :-)
Thankyou in advance :j

This site is quite good for comparing ISPs:

Forget Virgin if you want a fast connection0

The best website I have found for comparison is:
http://www.dslzoneuk.net/
Look under 'ISP Ratings' on the left and 'ISP Speed Averages'. Very very informative. Wish I'd seen this before I signed up to Virgin. Yes, to echo Trisha, Virgin are very slow. Especially at weekday evenings. And the £50 cancellation fee in the first year is as good as a contract.
This is 'old Virgin' mind you. ADSL Virgin. The cable services that now comes under Virgin Media (Telewest & NTL) I can't speak for. Before they became VM, 'old Virgin' was second to bottom under 'ISP Ratings' in the website above. Now thats its merged they have become elevated a bit in this list. The cable parts of VM are decent then according to this.
I would choose one near the top, and avoid those at the bottom. Though this list may roughly equate with increased price. TalkTalk's "free" broadband; second to bottom! UKFSN, at the top, are dearer than Virgin (but look at the ratings - much better).
Good luck!0 -
Thanks for the info - thats a great website.
Because of where i live i'm restricted to what ISP i can go with - so i've opted for BTinternet. Fingers crossed :-)
Went through Quidco too to get £40 cashback.

We had loads of touble with Orange (no connection etc) so I changed to BT Broadband and have had no problems at all. They are so helpful at the support line, and the speeds are fine.0
