Accepted offer Wednesday - when should we hear about survey / pester EA ?

Hi
We accepted an offer on the house on Wednesday, when do you think we should hear about they survey ??
The buyers are already half way through selling theirs and we already own our new house so just waiting.
Will the first thing we hear be from thier survey guy ? Or will our solicitor contact us ?
Sorry never sold before and I soooooo impatient, selling this house is going to give me even more grey hairs !

It might be some time. They used to book a surveyor straight away - my EA told me that nowadays they do all the credit/wage checking etc and approve the mortgage on the person before they 'waste' the buyer's money on booking a surveyor. So, could be 3-5 weeks before you get that phone call saying a surveyor wants to come.

As for the order, what I got was: letter with standard letters/forms/fixtures & fittings list. Long wait. Surveyor's call. List of questions from their solicitor. Contract to sign. Another surveyor (mortgage company crossing t's and dotting i's). And now waaaiiiiting..... contract was ready to be signed 2.5 weeks ago, solicitor's been sitting on it for 1.5 weeks already.

    Ah right
I might check with the EA to get her to see how far the family are on ?
If they have already done the initial mortgage offer etc ??

Can I ask how long you have been waiting from receiving the offer?

Also, for EAs/solicitors, it's best not to chase Thursday afternoons or Fridays as those are their frantic days as those close to completing will be panicking and things might be unravelling.

  • Is this the mortgage valuation or the buyer's "own" survey?

On 31/05 our vendors confirmed they were happy to move into rented accommodation so on the same day we contacted the surveyor and mortgage advisor to let them know, as well as sending back the solicitor's forms.

Our survey: was booked on either 31/05 or 01/06 and took place on 07/06
Mortgage valuation: who knows!? The mortgage advisor has taken the fee for the valuation, but is ignoring my queries about whether it's been booked yet (and when for, and when we'll hear more!)
You were only killing time and it'll kill you right back

Very selfless, but you're unlikely to get the same courtesy when it comes to your exchange and completion days.

If my solicitor is too busy to spend 5 minutes giving me an update on the situation, then I'd start to think he had too much work on and was liable to miss things on my case.

And as for Estate Agents, who cares about making their life easier?! :)
