mental illness are extremely debilitating and not something to be taken lightly. I don't think OP came here looking for people to feel sorry for them and find a get out clause for paying off all the debt. More like looking for help to freeze the debt and stop further accruing interest and charges being applied like if you had an IVA0

Celtic.. ive been asking them to terminate my account for 6 months.
Ive got 50 emails that i just dont understand from them.
I even got £100 compensation from a complaint i dont even remember making. (about thier mocking behoviour towards me).. Its good they record my calls
And nick, I know this. I know thier tentacles cant reach me here. But im not a thief even if I sound like one.0 -

I wasn't meaning to infer that you were a thief. You seemed to be after a Full and Final settlement and I was just pointing out that if you leave the account in default for long enough you will get one. The fact that you are in Finland is likely to make them tend to think that they would be better off accepting a reduced sum rather than risk having to enforce collection from overseas.
I hope you start to feel better soon, to be honest I wouldn't worry too much about this with the other issues you have going on.0 -
I thought it was common knowledge that some mental health problems could lead to debt problems, bipolar is one that spring to mind. I dont condone anyone not paying what they owe by the way. OP if you live in Finland full time and you aren't looking to move back here then just stop paying it, after a while it will get passed to debt collectors and then you should be able to negotiate a full and final settlement. They're not going to send someone on a plane to get you if you don't pay so don't worry about that.0

Agree, that was what I was trying to say - you've probably worded it more clearly.0 -

UncleS - I think the only advice you need to follow on here is from jo-bo and Nick - if you are not coming back to the UK, ignore them, they aint going to "come after you". Your health and well being are far more important. I would ignore anyone (including those on this thread) that have a complete disregard for the Disability Discrimination Act.No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

Thank yo oscar 52 jo=bo and nick.
I do however understand peoples reaction. MOst folk just have no comprehension of how you can lose control of your body, mind and soul.
I hope it never happens to any of you. Even the trollls...0 -

The letter also states that "Under correct medication Mr XXXX is likely to succeed and lead completely normal life"
Now from their perspective a completely normal life includes paying your debts.
This of course may not be what you want to hear.
I would suggest seeing your GP in the UK, and indeed get some advice from the CAB or similar.
It should, in effect, make no difference.
An EU registration is an EU registration. My mother is a Swedish-registed Soviet-trained Georgian national, practicing in the UK since 1994.
With the medical condition, though, they should be taking action a bit less leniently IMO, although from experience, NW aren't the easiest bunch to deal with.
The fact you've discussed it on these boards should make no difference to the case. I've popped on here for advice before now whilst liaising with NW, as it's often given some new ideas to raise with them, and often had everyone but their staff be supportive and helpful on these boards.

So are you suggesting OP should get examined by a medical professional recommended by the bank?anything that involved hospitalization, I wouldnt question it.I would assume that if someone used "an excuse" that a family member had died, you would want proof such as an Order of Service"??
If I don't attend work and then go in a month later saying I was in hospital, they'll want proof or disciplinary action will be taken. Whats the difference here?0 -
If they are saying they shouldn't pay a bill or charge which they owe, then yes. And would this person be independent? Probably not if employed / instructed by the bank.
So if I stopped making payments, and then after you put £500 of charges on my account I said "I was in hospital", you would remove all charges without question? Don't be daft. Your running a business, you want proof that payment couldn't be made, and why not one else could make a payment on your behalf. If it was within a Short Time period, yes, I did. As for someone else, they would need to know the account existed, which the bank c/c provider couldnt provide information for due to DPA
I'd probably ask for a certified copy of the death certificate (or to bring the original into a branch).
And would this Death Certificate prove that the person was related to the individual?
If I don't attend work and then go in a month later saying I was in hospital, they'll want proof or disciplinary action will be taken. Whats the difference here? Any reputable employer would attempt to make contact long before a month expired.
