Can I change o2 tariff?

Hello I have had a contract with o2 since September 2010 and its due to run out this September but its nearly £40 a month is there anyway I can switch to a lower tariff like a simplicity one because I am near the end of this contract?

They will let you go down to the next lower priced tariff, but that will be it till you get to the end of your minimum period.0

This depends on what your contract says.
My contract taken in Jan 2011 allowed downgrading one step in the second half of the minimum term.0
