Porting my number from one O2 contract to another O2 contract!!!
My current O2 contract (mobileshop 12mnths free) is due to end at the end of this month, having spoken to their (irritating) retention team the best possible deal they could give me was 200x-net/100txts for £20! Which i think you will agree is pretty lame.
So I’ve decided I will try & get another one of the O2 cashback offers currently being offered by CPW/Esave etc.
My problem (i think) will be porting over my number as i beleive you cannot port your number if its onto another contact on the same network, please correct me if im wrong here??
If this is the case what is the best way of getting my number ported over to the new O2 contract? I think i read somewhere on this forum that you can port the number to a PAYG sim on another network (I have a few virgin sims lying around) and then port that number again. Is this the best way to do it? And if so how exactly do you do it.
Also wouldn’t virgin get a bit miffed if I’m just using them to piggyback my number for a few days or so?
Thanks in advance

I have done this in the past and to be honest it does not matter if they get miffed or not as there is v little they can do.. you should have no problemThe glass is always half full, no exceptions !!:D0

The way you describe is exactly how to do it. Call O2 and ask for your PAC. Give this to Virgin and then when it is active with Virgin, ask them for your PAC and give it to O2.
Virgin may well be miffed at you using them in this way but there's nothing they can do to stop you.
EDIT: Beaten by 2 mins! This space has been intentionally left blank0 -
many thanks vickyj & glenthebaker (even tho your a rams fan! )
What are the typically timescales for porting to & fro?
P.s. I just spoke to a work collegue & he reckons you cant port to a PAYG sim, is he talking rubbish?0 -
porting takes 5 WORKING days (so basically a week)
you can definitely port to and from a PAYG sim0 -
O2 retentions told me this evening that it is possible to port a number from O2 to O2, but only if buying from CPW, as apparently they handle the contract themselves.
I don't quite understand how it works, and would recommend confirming with CPW before you buy, but could be useful. I'm eyeing up a W800i (clearance) with 8 months free line rental...0 -

I have tried this in the past and CPW refused.
Something to do with the amount of comission they get and hence your cashback
Safest to port to 3rd party PAYG sim and then back0 -
I would just put the o2 PAC directly into the website and assume that it will work. If they reject it, then there is nothing stopping you doing the Virgin route.
You can port within the O2 network, from O2 to CPW O2, O2 Online and O2 PrePay etc with a PAC.
As for the comission issue, if it ports fine, I wouldn't think thats something you should worry about.0
