Talkmobile Charging for UK Mobile Calls - sometimes
Comments

ITU is an international body. OFCOM is supposed to represent UK interests there. If they cannot do anything with codes, they are supposed to solve the internal problems within their means, not to create them. Russia and many former Soviet republics share the same international code and managed to solve this problem somehow. That is up to the ITU. OFCOM have absolutely no say in international dialling codes.
Why do we need expensive regulating bodies if we can decide everything by voting? Unlike the 'majority', the regulator must think thoroughly about the consequences. Otherwise it is the incompetence resulting in mess as I said above....OFCOM went with what the majority of people wanted - portability.0 -
I had a call this afternoon from TalkMobile. They started by wondering if the number was ex Lyca but I pointed out that
a. It was not and
b. Sometimes it's charged for but most often not.
They are going to speak to the "technical team" and call back within five working days.

Just a thought as a colleague of mine got caught via Vodafone this way. If you listen to a voicemail FROM that number and 'press 3 to return the call' or whatever yours says, you DO get charged for the call.
Always dial the number from speed dial/contacts/manually and never through the VM menu.
BYW, Vodafone did refund him when he found out and complained it was not obvious.0 -
Thanks for the suggestion, it is not one I had though of. What I did think of is that the phone is set to call forward to the number being sometimes charged for, if busy. It's going to be something like one of these situations.
TalkMobile called back yesterday and mentioned roaming (definitely not the case). They also suggested that the contact may be stored in international format and that may be the issue!
I've told them I'm not happy to pay, so they are pursuing it with their technical team.
