What about non alcoholic wine? But, as Necko says, all the alcohol content of wine is cooked out when you use it that way.

It's expensive, Jayar! If we can't drink it, I won't pour it into the sauce either.

It all depends :D A slug of red wine in a pasta sauce can just be omitted, but you can't make coq au vin without it ;)

It might help if you indicate which recipes you need to substitute, but options may be apple juice, water, milk, grape juice, orange juice or nothing.

i know exactly what you mean, i love to drink red wine but cannot abide the taste of alcohol in savoury food! i cant stand wine in sauces, steak & ale pies etc etc.
i find it virtually impossible with italian or french food especially!
i normally just use extra stock or if you need a different flavour apple juice often works ok.

i will watch this thread with interest!

The thing is when you cook with wine, you would bring to the boil and simmer and I think that this "cooks" out the alcohol in the wine so you aren't left with that taste.

  • I'm obviously strange.... I don't drink alcohol - don't like the taste of anything but love the taste of food cooked in it!!!

  • Does anyone know if there is anything I can use in cooking instead of white or red wine as some recipes suggest?
A meal can work out quite expensive when I have to buy wine just so that I can add a glassfull.
