i did have a bugbear when my ds was a small one in a buggy, the times people would just stop in front, and almost land in my son's lap.

no i wasn't to busy on my mobile (i didn't have one then) and to be honest i don't do the holding the phone to my chin thing either,

If i was to stop to see if i had lost someone behind me i tend to move over to the sides as to be out of the way of crowds so that people wouldn't then walk into me,

Remember if we are behind you, we don't know what your next step is...

unfortuneatly its the same all over.

I went to Blackpool under protest last Sunday, it was cold, wet, filthy, littered, louts effing and blinding, drunk as lords, spitting, etc etc and that was just the women:eek:

I will never, ever go back there in my lifetime.

Went there some 14 years ago and swore I'd never return.

I dislike Ipswitch for this reason, it's a nice place but I've met some **** people there.

Ipswich is my nearest town, but I avoid it like the plague! The incident you describe doesn't surprise me in the slightest. What was once a reasonable place to go shopping has become utterly vile and there are some incredibly unpleasant people, who seem to spend their entire time making life difficult for other people.
Having said that, there are MANY places up and down the country just as bad, if not worse.
I also want to say, that just stopping in the middle of the pavement is a pain in the backside for other pedestrians who can't anticipate your every move. It's happened to me many times beforeco. and has nothing to do with being too close to the person in front. No excuse for foul language though.

If you were truly remorseful, you'd serve your community sentence in Ipswich ;).

Sadly the scenes the OP described are commonplace in every city I've visited. Birmingham was by far the worst one I've experienced though! It makes your Ipswich trip sound like a pleasant day out.

Within 5 minutes of getting off the train at Birmingham New Street I'd had my wallet stolen and someone else had tried to grab my bag from me (thanks to the quick thinking of the Transport Police I managed to avoid losing this too).

The next day I was part of a group of friends that were held up at knifepoint outside the Bullring shopping center and told that we were going to to get a stabbing unless they got what they wanted. As I'd only had my wallet stolen 24hrs earlier there was nothing I could give them (other than my watch which wasn't worth much and a handful of change). They took two friends of mine to cashpoints and made them withdraw as much as they could. That was a very scary 10-15 mins of my life I don't want to repeat....

This was in the late 90's and although I've heard it's not so bad these days it's fair to say I'm not going back to Birmingham anytime soon...and by that I mean never again! It was certainly eye-opening....and not in a good way!

At least in London I only ever got begged for money every 5 mins and other than that they left me alone!

Ipswich sounds like a relaxing day out! ;)

Thanks for your comments Timalay, your right, I have no doubt there is worse places to go. What I saw was probably mild compared to the way people behave in some parts of the country.

No problem, probably mild compared to other parts of Ipswich I would even say.

For a laugh you should look at the weekly crime map of Ipswich in the local daily paper.

Thanks to everyone for all your posts, it's interesting to hear your stories.

I've had people suddenly stop in front of me before and I know it's annoying but we have all done things on the spur of the moment without thinking then realised it wasn't the best move. It doesn't mean you should be treated to a barrage of foul language, especially in front of children. I didn't hurt anyone I just stopped in the wrong place at the wrong time.

    Oh well lesson learnt.

I live in a "nice part " of our local area, 10 minutes away there are scenes just like the one you posted about day and day out. This happens the length and breath of the Uk.

I was in Tesco's with my two small children when some horrible think it was a lady started fing and jeffing at me for no other reason than there seamed to be an empty shelf and non of her preferred bread of choice.

Its horrible, I was so ashamed and rushed to another isle. If you say something you run the risk of having a full blown mouth full or having to skulk away head down.

I don't think it is Ipswich hate to say it but I think it is just how certain members of our society are
