I've read about how this works in principle but does anyone have experience of how it works out in practice? How easy is it to find and log on to 'hotspots' when you're out and about?
Thanks

Not ideal, to be honest. I was part of the original FON network until they did the 'deal' with BT. You will find you bet more connections from BT OpenZone than from Fon sites, as they can be very flakey, and usually have the bandwidth restricted too.
Look at it as a useful bonus, that if it isn't there, you'll not miss it.0 -
I have a Fon home hub and am able to access (some times) via BT home hubs which come up as BT Openzone / Bt fon
On Friday I accessed the internet via a BT fon home site whilst in a car park and checked the speed and it came up as 26 Mbps a first! -normally the speed is lot lot lower but usable for email updates quick browsing etc
Access is easy using a Fon -not BT - apk.It normally is completely automatic after initial app download and set up on phone. When you are within wireless range the Fon app audio alerts and automatically connects to the network.
Busby comments are true bandwidth restrictions and signal flaky as they are home hubs not designed to flood the street with free high speed wifi0
