Isn't it likely to be some kind of taxman avoidance thingy?
ie. Person on benefits sells a lot of stuff on eBay and has money in their Paypal account, but can't transfer it to their bank account as it will affect the benefits that they get.
By buying cash like this they have converted their unusable funds into untraceable spendable funds, at a cost of £20.00
  • Or maybe the seller robbed a bank and needs to get rid of the evidence!

Think the seller is working on the principle that foreign ebayers sometimes need to send cash in sterling to UK ebay sellers.
He's also offering free worldwide postage.

I've got a crazy Japanese guy at the moment who wants to send me $1200 in cash - I want it in sterling. And just recived $200 cash from a US buyer it was going take 2 weeks for him to be able get Sterling.

If the seller is legit wondering if airsure/ international signed for actually is insured for cash?

What are ebay rules concerning sending cash?
My father wants to send $'s to the USA, but I thought that he will not be covered if the goods dont arrive.
Would sending the cash "recorded" help him at all?

    Sorry to jump in.

You won't be covered by ebay.
If it's a small amount and sellers feedback is good and cash is really the only international method seller will take might be worth chancing it if your father really wants the item.

Sending it recorded wil only let you know if the seller actually recieves and signs for the envelope. Although in theory it should mean that it's more likely to get there but a signature doesn't prove anything really, your seller could just say that envelope was recieved but was empty and had been tampered with in transit.

My japanese buyer is plain nuts I could easily keep his cash and take a hit on feedback and there's nothing he can do - not that I'm gonna.

The sellers f/b is ok, but she took a week to bother to reply to the invoice requests (even though she agreed in email to the international sale before he bid). She was still selling and leaving feedback every day during that week.
Therefore, I am wondering if she will bother sending it, (£12 item), but will cost £3 to send recorded funds over.

    Who's got a bargepole :confused::D

Unfortunately there are no bargepoles (or barge poles) listed on eBay at the moment!

Perhaps there's a niche in the eBay market for selling poles for barges?
    That's Numberwang!

This is what I thought too. Isn't that why gift vouchers go for so much on eBay too?
Cos I don't shine if you don't shine.
