Halifax Faster Payments - Unsuccessful

Made a faster payment from my Halifax account to Natwest this morning (an hour ago).

The message at the end said that it was unsuccessful due to a technical error and to try again later, yet my account shows the money has gone and my balance reduced.

I called the helpdesk and they confirmed the payment had been made and that there is currently an issue with the incorrect message coming up after a faster payment is made.

Although faster payments can take up to 2 hours to arrive at the destination, I regularly make this payment and it is instantly in Natwest. It hasn't arrived yet....and it's for over £500....GULP!

    Don't make another one...yet!

    The payment, whilst normally instant/within 2 hours, actually has until close of business Tuesday (under the PSR's) to credit NatWest.
  • I agree with the above, I thought it said that they try to make it within 2 hours, I also seem to remember that even if the payments made, if the other bank have a problem then it can still be the next day. We had problems with Barclays yesterday for example, however I agree Halifax usualy send it right away.
  • I had the same problem transferring money to Santander. I phoned Halifax and the lady I spoke to said to give until 12:00 by which time the transfer should have gone through. No sign yet though.

    I hope mine hasn't gone through!!

    I tried to send payment to my credit card, but it said unsuccessful like yours. So i tried again. I then sent the payment to my gf's account to try payment to the C/C from hers but that was also unsuccessful (note: i was able to transfer to her Halifax account).

    I then tried to sent payment to my Santander account to attempt to pay from THAT account & it again said unsuccessful.

    Seems i can't transfer out of Halifax full stop. I hope they weren't incorrect messages & that payment did actually go on each attempt.

    Damn! Just checked & nope, all payments did actually go through, so now 2 lots of payments have gone to my credit card when in fact i only wanted 1 (obviously).

    Grr :(

    Same. Mine has finally arrived in my other bank (Natwest). I had phoned Halifax again at 3:30 enquiring where the money was. They advised again that the money was on its way as it had been sent by them to Natwest and that the message was an 'IT' error. They also advised that many customers had called with the same issue.

    I have just tried to make a Faster Payment from Halifax to Santander, I got the error message and my balance has not decreased.
    I went back in to try and do it again, but the recipient is "greyed out" and I am unable to select it.
    After reading this thread, I will wait a couple of hours and see if it goes out later.

    It's not a major issue I suppose, but I thought online banking was supposed to make things easier!!

    I tried to make payments to my HSBC and ING and although I didnt get an error message it will not allow until tomorrow. The recipient is greyed out on the list now. This happened to me before but I do find it infuriating.

    I have just tried to make another transfer and its saying the same. I rang them earlier but waited 10 minutes and still didnt get a reply.
