Soolin, I suspect what's happening to you is an understaffed delivery office, where managers are taking out mail that there's not been enough time for the posties to deliver, or as custardly said, lapsed duties. RM always try to do this, take a duty out of the office and share it among everyone. The office I worked in lost 4 duties and the workload was shared among the office, which resulted in people going over their time. I can't imagine it's got any better since I retired.

I'm just glad I got out when I did.

Crowqueen - How do you propose RM deliver everyone's mail before 11am or outwith working hours?

to give an idea. spoke to someone from my old DO today.
they 'lapsed' 8 duties from approx 60 duties.(i don't know the lapsing for the other 2 postcodes)
on a day with busy mail,6 D2Ds per duty including council newspapers and heavy numbers Tracked items.
The fact its busy doesnt come into the lapsing, which is supposedly 'designed' around mail traffic.

I have to say that despite the working conditions they are all terribly cheerful. Many of them stand and chat about what I have bought- I even made a crafty sale to one manager as he was interested in my stock !

I do give them bars of chocolate sometimes as well if they look fed up.

Don't feed the managers Soolin, they are just like trolls, will keep coming back for more :rotfl:

Tbh I loved my job with RM, despite moaning customers at times, the majority of people were really cheerful and glad to see me, no matter what time of day, always got the "Late again postie" comments, which were always replied with, nopes, right on schedule to finish at 1:15 :D Especially when I was on light duties and done 2 parts of a lapsed duty on the way home. Outwith my control when I done the lapsed bit, so tried to leave myself exactly an hour to do it.

Custardly, 8 sounds about right, can't even think how many were in my old DO, about half that and 4/5 were lapsed. They've just went through the revision and haven't heard many complain about it, but we were in the position that we actually had a good manager, it does make all the difference :)

My old DO is in melt down
2 managers suspended pending (hopefully) dismissal. no love loss with me on those 2.
another manager demoted to postie(now on long term sick)
cant walk/wont walk posties made up to pretend managers.
approx 12 staff short and not recruiting.
failures are a standard occurence now.
this is an office with some of the biggest revenue generating customers in Central Scotland.
Still not worthy of providing a decent service
