idris - I had the piles of clothes to bed to floor to bed etc and sorted it by random targets - eg 5 shirts onto hangers before I make coffee or find 3 jumpers to fold and put into wardrobe. Mine was all mixed in with photos, paperwork, electrical cables etc so I got distracted by them if I tried to blindly tackle the piles (now I write "all mixed in with photos, paperwork, electrical cables etc" I just can't imagine why? why?)
lir - the reported fragility does worry me a bit but I want somebody a bit less leggy than the whippetxclown I have now as he is all legs around the cats. I've been mixing with IG owners, none of whom seem to have had any breakage problem
PS - threw out the baby alarm yesterday - DD is 30 FGS!You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -

Oh that sort of Italian, a real breed one:rotfl:
They are extremely, extremely fragile. I have known a fair few, and more than a handful who have snapped legs jumping out of a car, or off a lap.. Dog dogs bone surgeon has made me promise never to get one, apparently they form a significant percentage of his work.
Otoh, I know of one that ran away and lived in the snow by itself for over a week before it was found.
They are the most beautiful of things, and if they were more sturdy I would have one like a shot.0 -
Find something to listen to, if you can. I use story CDs from library - Harry Potter is a fave, i am slowly working my way through them. Or something on Iplayer from radio 4 or r4 extra - I have just worked my way through a JB Priestly dramatisation. Or the omnibus episode of the Archers.
Sort stuff into piles - put at least one pile away. Or put back on floor in piles. When you add stuff, add it to the right pile. Then you are only putting away one pile at a time, rather than continuously sorting . My bedroom is often like this but it does work if you do it.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Ten things of the floor, just takes a few mins. Then see if you can do ten more......then if you have time another five......
Setting small targets in your fifteen minute window Idris, its really helpful.
I cleared my kitchen this way this week, just ten things at a time..

I've been pottering, well tidying, moving the stuff around the spaces, because the sweep comes tomorrow and well, I'm happy enough to let him in the living room, just hope he doesn't want to go anywhere else right now.
Idris, I don't really start with a set idea, I can't cope with the piles of stuff, so I work around the edges I suppose (I am sure someone on here came up with that idea). Like today, I needed to sort out the inglenook and access to empty the ashes, bring in the wood, so from a pile of stuff in the middle of the floor, (mostly business stuff), I have moved things to other places and have also made a start (again) on the bedroom...although no-one would think I had. Whilst doing it, I kind of settle in my mind the things that might be going, I also brought my slippers down from under the bed where they have been since last Xmas. I thought for some reason they would be manky but they're fine (they were new last xmas)...anyway, a little and often, just as Alec says, take one thing with you. It's better than nothing.
All this talk of greyhounds and whippets and Italian greyhound puppies makes me want one. Why are they called "sight" dogs?0 -
Byatt, they use their eyes, rather than their nose, as their primary sence.
Unlike dogs who track down things by scent, sighthounds see them and run, very, very, very fast after them.0 -
Old Girl Cat has begun hoarding veterinary diagnoses.
She has added liver disease and an unspecified infection to her collection of hyperthyroidism, cysts, tachycardia, tartared teeth (all 3 of them) stressbunnyism and general alien facehugger style clinginess.
So she has gone from one tablet once a day to two antibiotics, two liver tabs, one supplement, syringe feeding food gloop, a prescription liver disease diet when she deigns to eat and a run down with a baby wipe to cool her down. She is not impressed.
I didn't dare tell her that she's not allowed fish, prawns, liver or kidney ever again.
But, I went to the vet alone and had the Big 'Am I Being Cruel or Selfish?' talk. _pale_ Apparently not. She could be much better in two weeks. And might need a liver scan.
So I will be generally found blitzing dead things into gloop until she decides she is going to eat again.
Oh. And after the bills incurred as a result of this, I shall also be found hoarding 38p tins of beans, reduced bread and Basics tomato soup for my mealsI could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

I have been having trouble getting rid of a box of casssettes even tho I have no means to play them, they all bring back memories - then I sat down with them and searched for the songs on YouTube and sent a link to favourites to my Facebook page - so I now have video AND the favourite songs and am one box lighter as the cassettes are now binned - why did it take me so long to think of doing this? I will whittle down the fb page in time
I can probably see myself on some of the videos if I look close enough - pogo anyone?
That is an awesome idea :T  :j I have loads of cassettes and have a note on my TODo list (No.77) to get a machine to convert all cassettes to MP3s and get them on the portable hard drive, but maybe I'll do this instead. :T :j "Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it." Sorry that seemed really flippant after I'd posted it, my DD is 3 1/2 I stopped using the monitor about a year ago now, it's still in the back room (just in case), and I feel sentimental about it. The display doesn't work anymore, I don't think the batteries charge properly either, I can't sell it online like that, so why is it still in the house. I hope I'm not confessing the about in 27 years time."Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it." (Montgomery, L.M.(1908). Anne of Green Gables.)

Wow, I never knew that, does it just apply to greyhounds, whippets? I should have realised because they are used for racing but never connected the dots.
Jo-Jo, we (my DD and I) just agreed to an op on our elderly dog. It was a tough decision on my part in case we lost her under anaesthetic, plus was it fair to put her through it. Well she had the op tuesday and is like a pup now! She's on numerous medications too but hopefully we will be able to reduce them now. My DD paid for the op I couldn't afford it, having paid the same amount 2 years ago, and the vet then (different practice) "forgot" to remove the lump and then said I should have reminded her.
