Commiserations and loads of supportive hugs for those dealing with diffciult or impossible family members. Not at all in the same league as some here but we had a big family party this weekend, my Granny was 100 (amazing woman, still lives in her own flat) and her eldest son gave a speech in which he kept refering to "blood relatives" and then mentioned "others who have joined our family" by name but not mentioning two dearly loved "step mothers" who are regarded as mums by the step children just as much as our "real" mothers. It was annoying for us children (all grown ups) and embarrasing for the step-mums. The uncle who gave the speech is rather odd so we can all laugh but even this tiny slight hurts quite a bit, you can tell this because I am mentioning it. (sorry this is so far off the theme of the thread)
De-cluttering wise, home office now much tidier as we took all the bottles to the "storage facilty" but then was reminded that the shed needs a good tidy too. Oh well one thing at a time."doing the best you enjoy, not the best you can tolerate, is truly the best you can do sustainably."0 -

Oh goodness, that reminds me of my dad giving a speech, can't remember the occasion, about "blood" family...in front of my adopted DD  You could argue that he thought of her as "blood" and had forgotten, but that wasn't the case.
I've done very little so far, although did bring (buy) in some curtains for my bedroom from the recycling shop...which are needed as I have no curtains, just a fleece hanging from one window and a scarf from the other.
Oh and Jo-Jo, you have me banged to rights, I was even considering using the bowl for bits and pieces...:o
But it's going, a new resolve has taken over again.
I don't know the medication you mentioned but suspect from your post it's not very nice. I hope all has gone well with your visit. xxx0 -
Well all you lovely people, I won't be online for a few days. I have tomorrow and Monday off work for a long weekend, during which I turn 40!
My lovely hubby has some things planned but hasn't given anything away yet, but I shall not be de-cluttering during my break, except for a run to the tip tomorrow morning. I think I'm being taken out for dinner tomorrow night, but after that I'm none the wiser.
There will not be a surprise party as I'm still a bit too fragile to cope with a party/people/a fuss. I had my celebrations when my very bestest friends and their families visited us for a weekend.
I'll tell you all about it next week
Have a great weekend everyone, and do take some time to put your feet up have a treat and a small break from the Kibble, you deserve it :A"Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it." (Montgomery, L.M.(1908). Anne of Green Gables.)

I think putting your sister's stuff in the post was a great achievement. Some things are hard to face up to.
Happy birthday bobble hat. Have a lovely, lovely time, and here's to a clutterfree 40 more years!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Did get rid of DS' school shirts and outgrown trousers from last year. Need to replace the shirts. Also, out have gone DD's outgrown clothes and the cuddly toys.
Now, I may faint, but I think DH has gone to the recycling centre, without being asked!
Bought some fabric the other day to cover something small, but had to buy a minimum quantity. Usually, because of the newness, I would keep the leftovers until I had at least two years of non-use out of them but I have given it to my aunt to cover her chair with.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. I actually have a confession. I am addicted to the cleaning wipes. So I have only one cloth - DH uses that when he is cleaning. I wipe and throw away. It is my one decluttering luxury/pleasure, which I would have to cut down on if times are tougher. It keeps me motivated to declutter and clean.
I usually use disposable too, I was just trying to say that if you use washable then 4 boxes is probably more than enough. I do have some washable cloths for dusting and stuff but use kitchen roll and wipes for the bunny pen because I don't want the stuff that leaves their bodies loitering in my house for longer than necessary!0 -
Jojo, maybe you should become a professional declutterer?0

I think they really mean ' you are my colleagues but I consider you also my friends'. Would hope so anyway.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Fwiw i put my foot in my mouth daily, colleagues and friends wpuld be a minor one for me. Does sound a bit like, 'friends, romans, countrymen' i always think when i start emails with groups, rather than peoples names (peaoples names in a row remind me of tatiana calling peaseblossom, mustard seed et al in midsummer nights dream)
Linen. I have a lot of linen. Some i do not like and i am building my self up to taking it to the charity shop. Other bits i like the feel of, (high thread count) but dislike the colour....(shocking pink, what was i thinking, shocking pink?? I also have a baby pink sheet that is now almost white). Cannot quite bring myself to get rid of this. I am umming and ahhing.
Also, wonder if pet owners can help...how many 'dog towels' etc do you keep? i am guessing a trunk ful is rare? I do use them all in bleak winter weeks though, in front of dors, on their beds, to rub them down, in the back of the car.....
If i cut down on these then a animal rescue might be grateful?0
