I managed the bootsale, on my own. I've now had my cup of tea and biscuit to recover.
OH fiddled in the garage whilst I was out and I made £50.
I'm pleased and he has used the cleared space to store "timber that might be useful":(:(

Hey Byatt - you are going through my musical favourites in your signatures !You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0

Hiya guys, just a post to say I'm dealing with emotions around a family member who being in her 60's is likely to be officially diagnosed with dementia. I am just now sorting through all the paperwork so I can get an overall picture of what needs to be paid etc...and it goes back to the 70's. I have already filled my recycling bin with rubbish, envelopes and such.

Sorry about the situation. Do you have power of attorney or guardianship?
If not, you may have to go through the formal process to be appointed. If you have, you may want to talk to the medics about whether you need to register the guardianship given the deterioration of her state. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Byatt - lots of hugs. It puts my minor cold into perspective.
May have a bleached copper jug to go out. I sort of got a bit giddy with the spray cleaner 'with bleach'. Sigh.
Gingernutty - It really cheered me up about your rubbish experience with bins.
hugsAnkh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -

Well done on the £50 M.E. :T excellent.blossomhill wrote: »Hey Byatt - you are going through my musical favourites in your signatures !
I keep seeing lyrics/poems that say it so much better than me, but there's not enough room to put them all in my sig...:DByatt

No, I don't have a PofA. but I'm waiting to hear from her care manager as we need to do something whilst she can still make some kind of decision in her moments of clarity. Thank you for suggesting it though, I'm so grateful for advice as I really am in unchartered territory.0 -
Before we packed up for recycling yesterday, I called a friend and said that she needed to have a whirl around the house and get what she could together to take to recycling. She has mismatched crockery and glasses from other relatives/church jumbles that has accumulated, all chipped or cracked and not worth a bean.
While she was finding a box to put them in, I counted! 68 items all now gone, as well as our stuff. She was pleased and we are spurring each other on.
MIL gave us a basket tray thing that can be used as a fruit bowl in the kitchen. So that is 3 plastic containers that can go.
I also saw in the argos catalogue that they have everyday value white dinner plates, bowls and tea plates that are (I think) dishwasher safe for £4.99 for 12 pieces. I don't really like the bowls, but am sorely tempted to by a set or two and finally chuck out all the unmatching stuff that is a result of 20 years of mindless accumulation, and breakages. That would have the added advantage of discouraging me from keeping/getting hold of other stuff.
Am reading and being inspired by everyone's posts.
I am having a lot of weird dreams lately. Not specifically hoarding/decluttering but related to childhood or ongoing issues. Am also having some weekly counselling sessions. Felt so heavy today that I almost couldn't be bothered to get out of the shower. I would have been worried, but I know this sort of feeling cycles now, so will just ride it out. Will be watching the closing ceremony later and am looking forward to that. This is the first time ever I have been interested in the Olympics. Loved Mo Farah last night, and have been willing on Team GB all day.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
The bins! The bins!
Well,
I live on a terrace with front doors that go straight to the pavement with no gardens.
Every 12 houses, there's a passage where we are all supposed to pass the bins every week for the rubbish collection.
My side? There are a pair of drunk brothers with vicious dogs and pigeons who have become self styled guardians of the gate. They've taken over not only the passage, but the garden of the house on the other side of the passage - all in the name of security.
This means that I have to go down, knock on their front door and run the gauntlet of huffing, palaver and sighing so that one of them will open the gate and the other sorts the dogs out, so that the panel they use to keep the dogs in gets moved, the dogs put away on kennels and the gate unlocked.
As it's too much hassle for everyone along my section, the bins are kept outside the front door which is not too bad with just the one. I keep one of the small brown bins outside the front door.
Most people keep the brown and black bins outside so pedestrians now have to slalom between the bins to get down the pavement. I throw a lot in the recycling and want to keep it close, out of the way and free of rubbish thrown in by passers by.
My trouble starts as I've got two of each and naughty though it is, I'd like to keep the bins as they come in handy.
Every now and again, a council official comes along and points out that there is a £1000 fine for causing an obstruction. We point out the drunk brothers and the collection of drunk hangers on, the obstruction they've caused and the fact that only they have the keys to the gates padlock and the council official walks off never to be seen again.
As long as the drunks keep paying their rent, the local housing association really can't be bothered to lay down the law to them. They really are slack around here.....:( Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
Off topic, but goodness me I love the set for the closing ceremony. It is beautiful.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

It's the first time I've been so interested and in fact before the Games had said I had no intention of watching it. I have loved every minute of it and my soul bursts with joy just thinking about it. Watching the closing ceremony too.
I think your dreams are probably related to your counselling, I know I processed a lot in my dreams even if I didn't remember all the details.
I have started to dream of ex again since I've been dealing with latest sadness, which is very annoying as unbelievably for about 2 weeks or so since being on this thread (I need to check my earlier posts). I have previously in the last 7 years, dreamed of him every night.
Anyway, here comes Team GB!!! :T:T:T I'm going to cry...0
