One little bit of decluttering our office yesterday, sent four toner cartridges back to manufacturer for recycling. But discovered I can't post the Image drum, have to get a recycling bag from manufacturer then when it is full they collect for free, however as it is just me a DH in here working from home it will take ages to fill and we have to find a space for it until it is full. Is it really worth it?
Took all our re-cycling to the re-cycling centre yeasterday and discoved we can no longer re-cycle plastic bags there. I brought mine home to decide what to do with them but I notice a lot of people had pushed theirs into the carton recycling cage....stupid!"doing the best you enjoy, not the best you can tolerate, is truly the best you can do sustainably."0 -

Stick them in the main bin. If they don't recycle them, then that's what they want done with them.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Morning
Few more sheets through the shredder, boy was it good to read I'm not alone in the "overheating shredders" club
I do try and filter out all the terms and conditions which don't need shredding, they go in the recyling bin however there is still a lot of it to do....
sjprmc01 I hope you don't think I was getting at you with my post? You sound a bit defensive about going into primark?
I look at it like chocolate, if I buy it and it's in the house I'll eat it, as I have absolutely no will power. If I don't buy it, I can't eat it! Why put temptation in my own way?
Clothes shopping can be like that, if you don't need any new clothes, why put yourself in the position of having to deny yourself something?
Recycling print cartriges, does your local library have a collection point? Sometimes there are boxes to raise money for charity and you can just drop them in. Saves you having to store them.
Elona your batter story reminds me of the accidental 15kg of raisins and the 6x tins of toms that each weigh 1.5kg, purchases that I have made in the past (BTW I live alone) :rotfl:0 -

Lazy Liz - plastic bags are good to line waste paper bins, hold things together in the freezer, pad out cushion covers, keep shoes together, line bathroom bins, keep bits of washing together, cover plants if you are spraying a fence, etc etc etc. Or, as Jo Jo said, they can go in the bin. I donate a lot of my spare plastic bags to a local florist where I am friendly with the owner, but they are also always welcome at Church bring and buy sales and charity shops. However, if there is going to be a delay you can just put them in the bin.
Elona - I will try and find the exact recipe, I posted it at the beginning of July on the Old Style Board - basically it is a layer of batter, then a layer of mince mixed with chopped onions, then another layer of batter, cooked in a Gas 6 oven first and then a Gas 4 - erm, 30 mins and 40 mins I think - I am currently being harrassed by darling father, little bear and evil cat at the same time. It has taken me nearly half an hour to type this far, I'll do what I can when I remember. Also variations on Toad in the Hole (meatballs, roast veggies etc) and clafoutie. nom nom
Brighton Belle - I lurrrve Lakeland and the catalogue has just arrived :eek::eek::eek: But you do absolutely need everything there, even if you didn't realise it before. Actually, I would be lost without my Remoska.
Blossom hill - my darling uncle had literally hundreds of empty punnets stacked, because they would be useful. They weren't. But he realised that they were relatively easy to replace as he bought the fruit anyway so that sort of gave him permission to get rid.
Too harassed for words. But hopeful of at least tidying later on. Hugs to allAnkh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
Thanks for all the suggestions, we use up any "vest" type carrier bags for cleaning up after the dog, the stuff in the recycling is plastic covers from the post, non usefull kinds of bag and torn ones. I could take them to Mr T's but its 12 miles away and I have my shopping delivered. I know the delivery men will take unwanted bags away but not sure they want to take all the odds and ends we have. So into the bin they go.
I also have a shredder that overheats, often with a sheet stuck in it, nothing to do but wait for it to cool. Then it usualy gives me a fright when it comes back on again!"doing the best you enjoy, not the best you can tolerate, is truly the best you can do sustainably."0 -

Sorry, that makes good sense, and good for you for trying to recycle - but if you can't you can't. It sounds like it has to be put in the main bin.:(:(

Having a great decluttering afternoon, but it has slowed slightly for the women's boxing final. (Well, DH is actually sitting on the sofa, so has completely stopped). Yessssssssss!!!!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

I don't really like boxing. DH used to so it years ago before I knew him. But I do like Gold Medals! Well done Babyface!
And well done us...
Going...
13 pairs of shoes, boots and slippers
6 ink cartridges to the Recycling Factory, which should take us over the £20 threashold for payment, hopefully. (3 I knew about, 3 appeared)
3 pretty tins (bit rusty, had for years and they were originally gift boxes for food or toiletries).
2 spice racks
1 box of little used spices to MIL as she will use them
1 box of new toiletry bits that will go to MIL too
4 local artist prints for auction (my relative is delighted as her auctionable stuff was valued at more than she thought, so she is clearning out with earnest now)
2 black bags confidential waste
1 carrier bag of drinking glasses (we now have 12 matching ones of a delightful size)
1 picnic hamper (won an even nicer one recently so the old one will go to SIL)
15 cookery books (and I have still kept half a dozen). I would not have thought of getting rid but for this thread and yet these were around for hoarderish emotional reasons now I look at them closely.
1 egg cupboardy thing. It's nice but we either had too many eggs or none.
1 picture that I don't like
1 hat that DH has tried to get me to throw out before (I think he is taking advantage of the thread and reckons you lot would chuck it).
3 umbrellas have gone. All slightly broken.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
