I have a sewing machine, loads of my Dad's old shirts, loads of cut up scraps from my old jeans and they've been sitting there in bags and boxes in my bedroom for over a year.

I really, really want to learn how to use the sewing machine to make quilts.

I'm really going to have to get my fat behind into gear and take lessons....or get rid.

    Realistically? Really?

I'll book some lessons after pay day.....
Or, you could book the lessons now to start after pay day ;) ?

Can you sew a straight seam Gingernutty? If so you can make a quilt.

Um no. That's what I need lessons for. A simple 'how to' for my late Mother's electric sewing machine. There is a small shop around here which over the years, has become an institution - they do friendly lessons on Saturdays which I really want (need) to sign up for.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

    Hi and well done

The "cutting up a shirt for a quilt" website is reporting massive traffic and wants to know why, :rotfl:

For anyone who wants to do a craft - calculate how many hours you need - you will not find those hours unless you stop picking over each derichard item piece by piece, believe me - something has to give to free up that time for your aims of a clear house and leisure activity ...

We did a bootsale today, sold loads very cheap and won't be working out how much we made - the aim was to free up space, which we did, used our fellow poster's idea of zero value , and if we have a little more money in our pockets over the nxt week, well that's nice too. I bought nothing, came home with almost empty car. If I were to work out monetry value it would only reinforce my "thinking everything is worth more than it is" problem

Met a man who I am sure is a richard - lovely man, very old, enjoyed a chat, he wanted to buy some unsuitable items after his initial purchases but I decided it was just because he wanted to chat so we chatted about other things and I talked him out of them. He went away very happy and I felt better for not transferring my hoard into his home

This sounds great, can I come - but why just women? Men hoard clothes too

I like the idea of detering dealers - but actually it is a good way of detering hoarders too - or give credits (bring 10 items, take one home free) - actually isn't this quite similar to the M&S Joanna Lumley "thing" (don't say the word , it makes me want to hit her!)

Right I have had a very lazy day unfortunately. Rarely can be bothered to do much on a sunday. Went to a car boot sale this afternoon...I was dreading the possibility of buying loads of stuff...actually said to OH while we were walking round 'we get to look at someone elses crap for a while instead of our own!' :D Luckily the only thing I bought was a new door mat. Phew.

OK, how many of us, when we finally have imposed order on a formerly-cluttered hellhole, keep going back and peeking to make sure that the stuff hasn't rioted behind the cupboard doors or in the drawers? Or am I alone in this weirdness?!

No you are not alone, I look into the understairs cupboard and am always surprised it looks tidy.

I have at least two sewing machines. I am scared of both of them.

I was scared of the pressure cooker - but I got rid of that.

Trying to work out whether it is worth keeping ONE sewing machine and feeling the fear and doing it anyway, or getting rid of both. I have made a pair of curtains to fit windows 90 inches wide, 76 inch drop, with loads of fullness but not lined - sewn by hand! The machine was too scary!

Little bear has one more day in school, then I will be working round him. Also he is sickening for something gruesome - perfect timing! I will try and cram a lot into tomorrow.

I am just really impressed by you all. Lots of hugs

:o I once saw a pressure cooker explode and have been scared of them ever since. On the rare occasions I'm at Mum's and she's using hers, I have to leave the room.

 I cannot find the paperwork to the savings account I intended to close tomorrow. Frustrating thing is, I saw it about two weeks ago when I was going thru my file box and noted that it was coming up to maturity and that I should deal with it and now I can't find it! I know it sounds like a pathetic hoarder excuse but I DON'T lose financial paperwork, it's just not one of my many failings. Have been tearing the place apart looking for it and can't find it. Have exhausted myself so have to stop now or I shall get in a right tizzy before bedtime.

:o Shall just have to go into the branch with proof of ID and address and say "Hi, my name is GQ, you may have seen me before because I have a current account here and have had a succession of savings accounts with you over the years, and here is the paperwork to prove it. I would like my savings back please but haven't got the paperwork for that account and excuse the airheadedness because I'm just about menopausal." :o

Lawdy-lawdy, I can feel the embarrassment already. Thing is, I have the paperwork for the 2 other savings accounts I used to have with them............. but not this one. Damn good job I live alone or the poor burger would be getting the blame for losing it for me!

Wanders off, wringing hands in despair, hoping its hormones and not the start of dementia.............

GQ, it's there, it's just that you're not seeing it. Don't try and look anymore unless you feel rested, but leave till tomorrow? Sleeping on it seems to work quite often and the pixies wot stole it, will have returned it. They do usually for me anyway.

:) Thanks, hun, I've given up looking for it tonight. I shall grant a pixie-amnesty but I need it back by 9 am tomorrow, pixie-guys, OK?

If not, I shall just go to the bank after work with a wadge of proofs of ID and say I know I have the account but the paperwork is AWOL and can they just put the money into my current account, please? Honestly, I'd never make the grade as a money-launderer or a crim, I'm too inept.

D'you remember me saying I had paperwork all over my living room floor when I was sorting? I had it then, I can still see it sitting there but I tidied everything up before bed that night and was priding myself on my efficiency........pride cometh before a fall.............:rotfl:

Grrrr!!!!! That's what I get for organising myself for the workweek on a Sunday night! And I have no chocolate in the flat to comfort me, either. :(:p
