Scrapaholic wrote: »Have been skimming through the posts . Best wishes to all struggling whether it's clearing out or having bloods taken . We're having some new bedroom furniture delivered next week . All the old drawers and contents are in spare bedroom and our room is clear for the new furniture coming . It's such a mess but not sorting through until the new stuff comes . I'm going to try and be ruthless as there's so much clutter in those draws , not just mine but DH's too . He's agreed we need to clear them . It's hard trying to get him to throw clothes out and they can't be recycled as they're past it really . I'm so looking forward to getting everything tidy again . I'm then going to start on my kitchen and utility room cupboards . I've got brasses that belonged to my parents and a lot of other stuff too . Remember when brass ornaments were popular ? Anyway , thanks to reading this post I'm inspired to have a big de clutter . I'll definately feel better for it . Thanks all.
You can recycle past-it clothing. Your local charity shop will sell them to a rage recycler, even if they're falling apart, you can let them go! (The shop I worked at also recycled shoes and bags).0 -

Thanks Blossom, for letting me know about Calico. xxx If you're reading Calico, many hugs.
Back from the dr's and I'm continuing with meds as I don't need as much and they are helping other symptoms, but I also forgot to ask about a couple of other things. He's a lovely dr, but I just become so intimidated.
I took 2 pictures to the CS on the way, and there were lots of murmurings of how nice they were. Taken me a while to take these 2, but one was on the floor leaning against the wall and not even the right way around, so not sure why it was so hard.
However, I have a new arrival, a mini oven as my other one is on its last legs, it's flipping huge and yet another cardboard box to dispose of! Going to get the old oven in the car ready for the tip so it doesn't look so bad.
I'm not sure it will fit on cupboard I have, it never occurred to me to measure. Talk about dippy.0 -
Oh my goodness Ive just spent over an hour reading this thread and Im feeling a bit hmmmmm. Jo Jo THank you so much for starting this thread- it has helped so many people. Much appreciated.
I am definitely verging on hoarder. I watched a programme about hoarding last night that is always a bit close to the bone and yesterday I made a start on my middle room aka the room of doom that a lot of the time you cant actually get into. My bedroom is full of piles of clothes (not disimilar to the lady on the hoarder programme last night) and in the middle room I have about 5 bags/boxes of stuff to put in ebay that I have been procrastinating about for weeks. All my kitchen cupboards are stuffed to the gills with stuff that "might be useful", meaning I cant find anything I *actually* need. Im currently harbouring a broken slow cooker (despite having bought a new one to replace it) as it might be useful one day. Writing this down I can see how UTTERLY ridiculous it sounds but its whats going on in my head.
My husband is also a bit of a hoarder, but in the worst possible scenario he thinks he isnt, and also thinks hes neat and clean (he isnt)
I am going to spend the next 2 hours putting the first lot of stuff on ebay, then tomorrow I am going to do the kitchen cupboards and get rid of all the excess tat.
My mum is a bot of a hoarder- for example she has tuppaware coming out of here EARS and lots of "beautiful little glasses" she picks up at flea markets etc. She also likes to pick up "gifts" in charity shops etc that I then feel too guilty to dispose of. Just last week I cleared a bookshelf in the front room and threw out a VILE trinket that has had houseroom becuase she bought it for me.
I think my attachment to my "things" comes from a quite chaotic childhood- people coming and going (mums partners, my dad, mums friends) then a period of living in squats/shared houses/peoples sofas so losing a lot of belongings in this process then being a young skint single mum who could never resist a bargain/donation and kept everything as I had so little. That was also a security thing- clinging to things my (absent) dad had given me as a child as I felt so alone and insecure as a single mum.
Ok- that was a bit of a personal psycho anaylsis on the back of reading this thread!!! I will subscribe and join the crusade for a tidy houseHave nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.

Well here goes, With the exception of having to work on Saturday I'm now not back at work until September 3rd. I am going to go and have another go at DD's bedroom whilst she's at school as I find I can't do anything about the clutter when she's around . She'll sit and watch me try to sort through it but refuses point blank to help and I just feel so uncomfortable with her watching me trying to sort out her mess and refusing to help at the same tine. Plan for today and tomorrow whilst she is at school I am going to try and finish off in her bedroom.loobylou2.Proud to be dealing with my debts and aiming to sort out the mess in 2013!!!!:eek:0

Idristhedragon - well done on taking the first step - you sound quite determined! First of all I'd get rid of whatever you can make disappear quickly. That broken slow cooker must be taking up a lot of space! Have to admit I feel so much better and calmer having a clear surface or two (OK, just one but it's better than nothing!). Keep posting and you'll get lots of support here.
Loobylou that sounds a good plan. My DD is quite ruthless with her stuff but DS who's 10 is awful, he's a complete softy and can't bear to get rid of anything, particularly his mountain of soft toys. The only chance I have to get rid of anything from his room is to do it without him knowing. I choose carefully and he has never noticed.0 -

Then I set about using up all the other multiple sachets on short trips and everyday use.
I've been doing this also, I have little sachets and samples of everything (Coffee, Tea, shampoo, toothpaste, shower gel, moisturiser etc.) That have been kept for holidays and weekends away, but I think I am better off just using it all, and just keep 1 of each thing for an emergency.
I've not done much today, apart from decluttering some "on the turn" bananas into muffins!
Oh and I did receive my order from the Next sale today - so that's more clothes to find a place for. It was all for DD though as she has grown out of most of her clothes!

Well the oven does fit the cupboard and it looks fab! Tiny, but fab. I have been tidying the kitchen as a result and intend to derichard (is it dercichard or jusr Richard?) a lot of my dinner plates...and probably a few casserole dishes.
Hi Idris, you definitely sound motivated!
Looby, I used to tidy my DD's room when she wasn't there...she mostly forgot what she had in all the clutter anyway. It's difficult when they won't help/cooperate.0 -

I made DS tidy under his cabin bed a few weeks ago and he found a DS game, a CD and a book that he got as presents last Christmas and was absolutely certain he'd never seen before in his life!0 -

That made me :rotfl: because I have said the same about things I've bought and then forgot about them!
How many casserole dishes do I really need? I have a large square lasagne type one, 2 small ovals, a couple of large ovals, an iron one (small), a terracota one, medium...probably more. I also found a load of newish/new bake-ware under the kitchen sink, I put them there over 2 years ago when I moved in, with the plan to tidy when I was more settled.:o
I have already deRichard a couple of casserole dishes. There's just me, no room to entertain.
Apart from that I am CS a few jugs, and maybe some glasses. And I put a rusty tea tin in the recycling.0
