Will be following this thread. as I looked at Ai in Greece for this year. But failed to find any I liked.
But with the currant state of Greece , would going BB ( don't do SC) be a better bet ? Ai costs would be sorted out months ago . Greek restaurants /bars may well be cutting costs to 'lure' in the tourists.
Last few years its been Turkey for hols , but this year its the Canaries.0 -
We went to the blue lagoon Kos last year. Lovely resort, staff were first class, always smiling. Great place plenty of choice. The food choice was so extensive we never tried it all.
A lovely beach, which not many used, complete with bar.
A steady walk into Kos town, or the bus stop is outside main entrance. XRIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. Personally, I would not recommend AI anywhere in Greece.
For me, one of the great attractions in visiting Greece is sitting out in a taverna for an evening trying out the different food and drinks, and watching the world go by. Sitting in the same old hotel restaurant each night will detract from the cultural experience one gets visiting Greece.
Don't get me wrong - whilst AI holidays may have their time and place, for me Greece is not one of them.0 -
Wouldnt dream of AI in Greece..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Me neither. It can work in some parts of the world (Cuba and Egypt to name two) but the Greek resorts are packed full of bars and restaurants who will welcome you with open arms. Going AI is really bad for the local economy and you really can't go island hopping if you are booked into a 14 night AI hotel.0 -
Going AI is really bad for the local economy
As I was saying to my Turkish waiter/barman / guy on reception / pool man etc etc . Ai works well when the hotels are built in areas which have historically not been visited by tourists , no superstructure.
Example , Lara Beach Antalya Turkey . A number of 5* Ai hotels , all next to each other. Without them there is No employment, outside the hotel is a waste land.
Ai gives employment to people.....Ai is therefore GOOD for the local economy .0 -

But many AI places do not employ locals - they import cheap staff from Asia and Eastern Europe who put very little back into the local economy. And meanwhile the local tavernas and other tourist related things close as the tourists stay within the walls of their resort. Finally many of the AI resorts are not owned by locals, and are usually owned by foreign companies, so very little of the money finds its way into the local economy.0 -

As I said, AI can work in areas where there is not much else for miles around but in established resorts it can be devastating for the local economy.
"A study in Turkey, funded by the tourism industry and conducted at a First Choice resort, found that just 10% of spend by all-inclusive tourists found its way into the regional economy."

And as I posted . before the large Ai were there , nothing .
Your argument only stands up when a hotel , changes to Ai .
Without the hotel ( Ai or not ) no tourists ....... so no( foreign )money for the local economy.0
