Sanfrancisco/Blade - Large screen bleed

Options
I have a San Francisco phone, and I managed to squash it.

Can it be repaired easily? There is a large semi-circle, green then pink, across the phone - it works okay though currently.

I'm assuming that this is more complicated than just replacing the screen?

Thanks :)

I took mine apart and swapped out the mainboard (the bit that mounts the simcard and SDCard, and by elimination I now know also holds the flash memory & processor).

I've never taken anything like this apart before & by following a youtube guide managed it with no hassle.

I do have a tiny screwdriver though, you'll need (I think) a torx head size T5 and a tiny flathead in order to flip-up & clip down the miniature ribbon-cables that pass data from component to component.

*EDIT* Ps: Before you spend any money, make sure you know which bit is broken.
The digitizer is just a thin, totally clear layer of glass that is part of the black (or white) plastic outer casing - All this bit does it take the finger input, and transmits it to the phone, it doesn't actually project any image.
You'll now if this part is broken as you'll be able to feel the crack with your fingertip - It's literally right on the surface.

Underneath the digitizer is a totally separate screen made out of considerably thicker glass, and *this* is what displays the pixels & images.

This bit is sort of hard-attached to some other bits of hardware and the inner chassis (I know, I ripped an old one out from a spare), and if my guess is right, *this* if the bit that's bleeding, and would be much trickier to fix.

I was a hair away from buying a new "digitizer screen" off ebay too, to fix my old OSF, and having taken my current one apart, I now know I was lucky not to, as it would not have fixed an actual broken screen.

If I were you & it turns out it's the screen that's broken, I would look for a "bricked" OSF for cheap, where the processor & mainboard are knackered, but the screen still works, and simply do the reverse of what I did, replacing the mainboard from yours into the body of the bricked phone.

Yes I would agree with you that it is inner screen that has gone - the display is getting worse and worse!

Just need to find a bricked phone or bite the bullet and but a new phone!

This years San Francisco is the Ascend G300 from Voda, it's £100 and it's pretty common for them to unlock for free if you ask as time of purchase.

Some have even been unlocked right out of the box (my mums one).
  • This happened to me within a year of purchase. It was the OLED version and went for no apparent reason.

After checking the moisture indicator the Orange shop had it changed within 24 hours free of charge.

I was most impressed with Orange in this respect. Less so in most others.
