Given that Skype is peer-to-peer using lots of random ports, how does Three know that the data is Skype-to-Skype and therefore allow it? Does Three in practice allow free connectivity on most ports except the ports for common protocols such as 80, 443, 110, 995, 25 etc?

Three's free Skype to Skype uses circuit switched access numbers (which are free). The app uses data, which although free to use, will be billed on whatever data plan you are on.

So you need a Three-specific version of a Skype app? What happens for example on an iPhone, for which only one version of the Skype app is available?

Uses your data allowance which being 3 is all you can eat

Hi Superstar, I work for Three and might be able to help.

Skype On Three is a service that was promoted a while back for certain handsets only, mainly own-brand Skypephone and Skypephone S2, as well as certain Nokia and BREW-capable handsets. These calls are free and don't touch your data allowance.

Skype on your iPhone 4 is a slightly different system. You download the free Skype app from the App Store, then your Skype-to-Skype calls are free. However, making these calls does come out of your data allowance. As you say you have All You Can Eat data, this won't be a problem, (so long as you're in the UK, using the Three UK network) but if you were to move to a package with a specified amount of MBs/GBs, it might become something to consider.

    Hope this helps :)
